The ongoing need for clinical supervision of practicing school counselors in the United States has reached a critical point. Given the acute mental health needs of children and adolescents, staggering caseloads, and pandemic repercussions, school counselors often receive insufficient clinical support. Clinical supervision is necessary to safeguard against burnout, promote ethical practice, and encourage continual skill development for school counselors worldwide. Unfortunately, there remains a lack of available clinical supervision, trained supervisors, and practice-based strategies for providing consistent quality supervision for post-master’s school counselors. The authors provide three case examples modeling the implementation of the Diversity agenda in a school of education within a private Christian university. The second article in a series, the case studies demonstrate contextual application of confronting privilege as it manifests itself in a seemingly homogeneous environment. As the authors document programmatic, personal, and pedagogical methods informed by principles of social justice and equity, the intent is to move beyond cosmetic compliance with accreditation obligations towards a metabolized second order change within students and faculty.

Developing A Global Culture Of Collaboration For School Counselors, Suzy R. Thomas, Lorraine Dekruyf, Peggy Hetherington, Dean Lesicko

School-university partnerships are becoming increasingly popular within the field of school counseling. Peer consultation groups offer a specific type of partnership and support for practitioners, numerous advantages for those in higher education, and significant potential for international application. This article expands on Thomas’ (2005) peer consultation model developed for school counseling alumni, with adaptations of the model in two universities, as well as several K12 school districts within a single county. Data from participant evaluations indicate strong support for the personal and professional value of peer consultation.

Training Needs Of School Counseling Site Supervisors In The Pacific Northwest: An Exploration Via The Construct Of Self-Efficacy, Lorraine Dekruyf

School counseling site supervisors provide a critical contribution to the professional development of master’s program school counseling interns; however, their training needs remain unidentified in the literature. To that end, the purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the training needs of site supervisors of master’s program school counseling interns in the Pacific Northwest via the construct of self-efficacy. To initiate this exploration, the Site Supervisor Self-Efficacy Survey (S4) was developed. This 28 item web-based survey investigated respondents’ (N = 147) perceived self-efficacy in relation to supervision as well as hours of supervision training received. Results (82% return rate) …
