Spherical Geometry, Linda Moore Nov 2006

Spherical Geometry, Linda Moore

MAT Exam Expository Papers

Spherical geometry was studied in ancient times as a subset of Euclidian three-dimensional space. It was a logical outcome as the earth is a sphere. The word geometry literally means the measure of the earth. However, the undefined terms, axioms and postulates of Euclidian geometry take on a new meaning when studied on a sphere.

What Happens When Salt Dissolves In Water? An Introduction To Scientific Argument And Counter Argument Drawn From The History Of Science, Kevin C. De Berg Oct 2006

What Happens When Salt Dissolves In Water? An Introduction To Scientific Argument And Counter Argument Drawn From The History Of Science, Kevin C. De Berg

Science and Mathematics Papers and Journal Articles

There is an increasing demand being placed on teachers to use episodes from the history of science in their teaching/learning activities in science classes but there is a dearth of material available to teachers that are suitable for such activities. This paper outlines two models of salt dissolution drawn from late 19th and early 20th century chemistry and some of the arguments advanced for each model at the time that are suitable for the senior chemistry classroom. Its suggests that teachers create a fifteen-minute Interactive Historical Vignette using the content of the solution controversy to teach students how scientific ...

Veterinary Pathology Publications and Papers

Three related studies replicated and extended previous work (J.A. Danielson et al. (2003),Educational Technology Research and Development, 51(3), 63–81) involving the Diagnostic Pathfinder (dP) (previously Problem List Generator [PLG]), a cognitive tool for learning diagnostic problem solving. In studies 1 and 2, groups of 126 and 113 veterinary students, respectively, used the dP to complete case-based homework; groups of 120 and 199, respectively, used an alternative method. Students in the dP groups scored significantly higher (p = .000 and .003, respectively) on final exams than those in control groups. In the third study, 552 veterinary students responding ...
