This article reports the results from a national survey directed to the department chairs of political science to assess the current and future state of distance learning in that discipline. The insights of this research are relevant to all social science fields and offer important insights to other academic disciplines as well. College Science Via Internet: How Effective Is It?, Kathleen Flickinger, Connie Hargrave

In this paper college science instruction via the Internet is examined from three perspectives: students' on-line learning experiences; a comparative examination of learning on-line versus traditional instruction; and instructors' experiences teaching on-line. The setting was a freshman-level human anatomy / physiology course. Three students participated in a collective case study to describe the learning environment created by the Internet course. Motivation, computer savvy, and self-confidence were important to their success. Chemical safety is an important component of science education for everyone, not just for chemistry majors. Developing a responsible and knowledgeable attitude towards chemical safety best starts at the early stages of a student's career. In many colleges and universities, safety education in undergraduate chemistry has been relegated primarily to a few regulatory documents at the beginning of a laboratory course, or an occasional warning in the description of a specific experiment in a prelaboratory lecture.
