2007 Survey Of Summer Sessions Students At The University Of Nebraska-Lincoln, Paul Savory

Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications

During Summer 2007, UNL Summer Sessions (FlexEd) surveyed summer students to learn about their experience in taking a summer course(s). The survey results will offer confirmation of what we are doing well and will provide guidance on areas of improvement and better strategies for marketing UNL summer opportunities. A total of 227 students completed the survey. Fifteen summer classes were selected to complete a paper-based or electronic version of the survey. The classes were from three different summer sessions and used different delivery mechanisms (on-campus, studio, distance education).

The survey questions for the transfer student WELS were developed similarly to the previous WELS surveys. WELS researchers contacted various departments and individuals at Western to discuss information they needed about Western's transfer students. Additionally, WELS researchers conducted a focus group of transfer students in order to obtain insight into the transfer student population at Western and identify areas where transfer students differed from the rest of the Western population. Some questions were chosen to parallel previous WELS surveys. Transfer students were asked questions on a variety of topics including previous educational experiences, transfer student orientation, expectations about their Western …

Master's Capstone Projects

If we were to take a poll asking people whether they wou]d vote for or against morality, one would expect a rather overwhelming endorsement. There is little disagreement that people should behave morally, should respect moral rules and should be concerned about justice and responsibility (Berkowitz & Oser, 1985, p. 1 ). This study examines teachers' knowledge and attitudes towards conduct and discipline regulations as outlined in the Malawi government teaching service regulations, analyzes the relationships between their know ledge, attitudes and self reported practice. It ftn1her explores the contribution of preservice teacher training to teachers' knowledge and understanding of …

Focus group discussions were also conducted to get an in depth understanding of the problem under investigation. Two schools were national secondary schools; two were district boarding schools, and other two were district day secondary schools. The results of the study indicate that although the teachers had positive attitudes toward classroom assessment, they had very limited knowledge in this …

Making Progress Toward The Degree, Carl Simpson, Scott Matson, Linda D. (Linda Darlene) Clark

Office of Institutional Effectiveness

Introduction Students' ability to complete degrees in a timely manner has become one of the key new issues in higher education. Enrollment increases along with resource cuts have created increasing problems for student progress, which Western has been confronting through curricular changes, enrollment management policy changes, and higher workload for faculty and staff. At the same time, increases in tuition have highlighted students' felt need for efficient progress. Two recent findings illustrate the impact of these pressures on the university. First, nearly half (44.9%) of students who entered Western in Fall, 1994, said at least one course they wanted to …

Port Angeles Area Employer Survey: Demand For Training In Environmental And Resource Management, Carl Simpson, Linda D. (Linda Darlene) Clark

Office of Institutional Effectiveness

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Telephone interviews were completed with 42 Olympic Peninsula employers doing at least some work in the "environmental and resource management" area, along with much briefer contact with 42 other employers, establishing that they did not have employees in that area. Extrapolating results from our sample to all Olympic Peninsula employers involves a substantial margin of possible error. Even so, the report includes our best estimates of demand for personnel and training in Environmental Studies. We estimate the number of full-time Olympic Peninsula employees in environmental and resource management at 1,256. Another 882 work partially in the area. The …
