Elrod Center for Family and Community at Ouachita Baptist University hosted its annual Elrod Family Foundation board meeting recently, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the center and foundation. Faculty, staff and student volunteers gathered alongside the board members to reflect and celebrate the impact the center and its volunteers have had on the community through their service.

More Than 700 Ouachita Volunteers Help Celebrate 20th Anniversary Of Tiger Serve Day, Katie Smith, Ouachita News Bureau

A total of 745 volunteers served in Arkadelphia on Saturday, Sept. 24, as part of Ouachita Baptist University’s 39th Tiger Serve Day.

The semi-annual community service event is hosted by the Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community. Tiger Serve Day began in the spring of 1997 in the aftermath of a devastating tornado that hit Arkadelphia and has been held every semester since. This year’s Tiger Serve Day projects, marking the event’s 20th anniversary, celebrated its beginnings with the retro theme of “Into the Streets.”

Students, faculty and staff from Ouachita Baptist University will gather to participate in the school’s semi-annual Tiger Serve Day community service event on Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Ouachita’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community sponsors Tiger Serve Day and hopes to mark the event’s 20th anniversary with record participation numbers.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Elrod Center for Family and Community honored Rachel Wicker with the Cargill Leadership Fund Award at its annual University Community Service Awards banquet April 19. Many Ouachita students, faculty and staff were also commended for their service and community leadership during the past year.
