Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Department of Art & Design is hosting “Crowded Spaces,” an exhibit by Arlington, Texas, artist Treslyn Shipley through Oct. 3 in the Adams Gallery in Moses-Provine Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The exhibit features a collection of painted canvases focused on people engaging in social interaction in crowded public spaces. While Shipley said she’s always sought to represent basic human similarities through her work, the COVID-19 pandemic amplified the importance of human interaction. Ouachita Baptist University’s Art Club announced the winners of the 2021 Juried Student Art Show on Scholars Day, April 28, with Nicholas Herrington named the first place winner. Herrington is a junior studio art and history double major from Benton, Ark. The annual competition allows students of all majors the opportunity to have their artwork displayed on campus; the 2021 exhibit will be on display in Hammons Gallery in Mabee Fine Arts Center through October 2.

Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University will simultaneously host the traveling art exhibit, “What Were You Wearing?” The exhibit, which will be located in the McClellan Rotunda at Ouachita and on the first floor of Huie Library at Henderson, will run from April 2-20 for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. An opening reception will be held Tuesday, April 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the Captain Henderson House. The survivor art installation is free and open to the public, and viewers are cautioned that some may find the exhibit’s content disturbing.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Hammons Gallery in Mabee Fine Arts Center will feature the OBU Art Club’s annual Student Juried Art Exhibit from Monday, April 17, through Tuesday, April 25. The exhibit is free and open to the public, and winners will be announced at a reception Monday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the gallery.

“The exhibit was started as a way for students – art majors or not – to have their work professionally judged and displayed,” said former Art Club President Chad Satchell, a junior graphic design major from Frisco, Texas.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Adams Department of Visual Arts will host Lauren Teague in her senior art exhibit, “Converge.” The exhibit will be on display in Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery from Nov. 1-15. A reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.

Teague is a senior graphic design major from Jonesboro, Ark. She describes her work as either bright and full of color or dark and twisted. For her senior show, Teague wanted to portray the two extremes as a spectrum.
