An Analysis Of The Quality Of Ph.D Theses: A Peep Through In-Text Citations And Bibliography, Unnikrishnan S

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This study attempts to analyze the quality of Ph.D theses awarded by Mahatma Gandhi University, South India in the field of Social Sciences through their in-text citations and bibliography. This is done by foregrounding the mistakes made by the scholars in their theses. In between 2017-18, the university had awarded 69 Ph.Ds under Social Sciences of which 25 theses were selected for this study. The major finding of the study is that even though American Psychological Association (APA) style of citation is generally accepted across the academic community, none follow it strictly. This is because research guides are ...

A Study Of Staff Engagement In Dimensions Of Distributed Leadership, Organizational Commitment And Perception Of Autonomy In Singaporean Primary Schools, Gary Chin Sun Tsu Jan 2019

A Study Of Staff Engagement In Dimensions Of Distributed Leadership, Organizational Commitment And Perception Of Autonomy In Singaporean Primary Schools, Gary Chin Sun Tsu

Theses

Using surveys and questionnaires, the aim of this study was to examine distributed leadership in Singaporean schools. Exploratory factor and regression analyses identified that distributed leadership was related to affective organisational commitment and teachers’ perceptions of autonomy. The study also found that organisational commitment could be predicted by school culture and participative decision-making. However, autonomy could only be predicted by participative decision-making. Based on these findings, distributed leadership in Singaporean schools supported similar international research. Singaporean schools may look to foster a culture that is open to teachers at different levels and profiles to participate in decision-making for stronger organisational ...

The Rhetorical Situation Meets Adult Education: A Public Speaking Workshop For B-School Graduate Students, Lindsey Ives, Janet Tinoco, Sally Blomstrom Jan 2019

The Rhetorical Situation Meets Adult Education: A Public Speaking Workshop For B-School Graduate Students, Lindsey Ives, Janet Tinoco, Sally Blomstrom

Publications

Extant research indicates that there continues to be a gap between employer expectations and the oral presentation skills of B-school graduate students. In order to address this gap, the authors undertook a three-year effort to research, develop, and administer a public speaking workshop focused on preparing new business graduate students to meet industry demands for presentation skills and strategies. Survey and focus group data informed several revisions to the workshop plan. The series of revisions and participant responses point toward the importance of adjusting the elements of the rhetorical situation in order to account for the principles of andragogy when ...

Invisible Or Clichéd: How Are Women Represented In Business Cases?, Colleen M. Sharen, Rosemary A. Mcgowan Jan 2019

Invisible Or Clichéd: How Are Women Represented In Business Cases?, Colleen M. Sharen, Rosemary A. Mcgowan

Brescia School of Leadership & Social Change Publications

Women represent just less than 50% of undergraduate business graduates and 36% of MBA graduates. Despite their strong presence in management education programs, women are noticeably absent from business case studies—a key pedagogical tool for instruction within management education programs worldwide. While case studies inform students about business processes, decision making, strategy, and leadership and management challenges, they also promote unintentional learning about gender. We argue that case studies contain a “hidden curriculum” that presents and reinforces implicit assumptions and stereotypes about women’s fitness to lead. Using NVivo 11 software to analyze the content of written cases, we ...
