and the emphasis on core competencies including

literacy and numeracy can have the tendency to push

research training into the background. The question

should be asked though, is research capability a skill

practicing teachers should be engaging with? Is

reconstructing the curricula of universities to make

research preparation a priority worth pursuing?

The Application Of Multiple Intelligences In Two Year 7 Textile Technology Classes, Brianna Cameron, Gail Ormsby, Peter Kilgour

In a teaching and learning environment that

embraces innovation, inclusion and effectiveness,

it is essential to acknowledge students’ individual

learning styles to promote optimum learning.

While multiple intelligences (MI) theory considers

students’ interest, it has been more often applied

in teaching mathematics, science and music

subjects. This study applied the theory of MI within

two year seven textile technology classes. Data

were collected from student group assessments,

surveys and daily engagement levels. The results

of the study show that groups whose members

shared similar MI reported having a more positive

experience than groups that were not specifically

Proposals announced yesterday by Education Minister James Merlino to attract more talented teacher education candidates underline the importance of teacher quality to student learning.
 
We have allowed teaching to become a much less attractive career option for academically successful secondary school students. Allowing the current trend to persist would have a detrimental effect on school students and on education in the long term in Victoria.
 
Future teachers can apply for undergraduate teacher education programs through two different pathways; through Tertiary Admissions Centres at the state level, or directly to a university.

Covering necessary information literacy topics in a one shot session can be difficult. To address this challenge, the Marquette Raynor Memorial Libraries moved to a new instruction model for the First Year English program. The new model involved embedded librarianship and interactive Articulate Storyline tutorials pre-loaded into the Learning Management System (LMS). These new initiatives provided flexibility in teaching information literacy concepts and fostered stronger relationships between librarians and their instructors. Faculty professional development programs are critical components of efforts to improve teaching and learning in the sciences, but reliable evidence of sustained impacts of these programs is lacking. By definition, if a professional development program is effective then desired outcomes are sustained by participants after program completion. We tested the effectiveness of Faculty Institutes for Reforming Science Teaching (FIRST IV), a professional development program for postdoctoral scholars, by conducting a study of program alumni. Explicating The Teacher's Perspective From The Researchers' Perspectives: Generating Accounts Of Mathematics Teachers' Practice, Marty Simon, Ron Tzur

In this article we articulate a methodology for studying mathematics teacher development in the context of reform. The generation of accounts of teachers'practice, an adaptation of the case study, provides an approach to understanding teachers' current practice and to viewing their current practice in the context of development toward envisioned reforms. The methodology is an alternative both to studies that focus on teachers' deficits and to teachers' own accounts of their practice. Conceptual frameworks developed within the mathematics education research community are applied to the task of investigating the nature of practice developed by teachers in transition. We present an account of a sixth-grade teacher's practice as she responds to the challenges of current reform initiatives. We analyzed classroom observations and interviews to understand how the teacher, Ivy, teaches and thinks about teaching mathematics to her students. For Ivy, mathematical meaning is available in particular experiences. She creates these experiences for her students by leading them through a predetermined sequence of steps of mathematical knowing.
