Curriculum, the term used to denote a course of study, has been understood in recent years as a documented program developed by experts and managed by an education authority. In many cases this has resulted in a focus on the experience and the goals of dominant cultures, so that minority groups do not feel well-represented in the curriculum. In this paper we explore the possibility of young people using mobile devices to enrich their curriculum by contributing content that encapsulates aspects of their lives. Mlearning In Education: A Summary, Heather Watson, Gerald White

This review summarises the current situation of mlearning in Australia, identifying government mlearning initiatives and considering the following: delivery issues; the digital divide (access, ICT literacy and information literacy); content issues (available, affordable and appropriate); national strategies (integration, coordination); worldwide mLearning. The authors conclude that education can benefit from using emerging mobile technologies to deliver learning matched to the increasingly 'neomillennial' learning styles of their students. They assert that mLearning is a collection of pieces to be fitted to a learning need, not a single solution. Good teachers, communication, collaboration and stimulating activities are essential.

Electronic or ePortfolios are containers for selections of digital items – whether audio, visual, text, or a combination of these – generally used to show individual learning. Large-scale systems are being developed in Europe and the United States, based on specially-designed proprietary or open-source software. In contrast, most Australian ePortfolio projects in schools are small-scale, locally-developed attempts to take advantage of digital formats to develop a range of literacies, express learners’ identities and present achievements to various audiences. In the first part of this article, I examine new concepts of masculinity and the implications of these concepts for the practice of school administration. I also discuss the "gender subtext" of school organizations as one of the mechanisms through which masculinity is enacted and masculine stereotypes are reinforced within the school setting. In the second half of the article, I offer a vision of gender in schools that seeks to make the full range of gender expression available to all organizational members. Are there students with physical disabilities who are so severely impaired that their culture can not be taken into consideration? Growing numbers of preschool and school age children with such disabilities are from non-European countries including Africa, South America, East Asia, and the Caribbean Islands. In addition, children who are American Indian/Alaska Natives, African American, or Hispanic are also represented in special education programs. Psychologically, familiar food, music, and customs are important for these students as they may provide a comforting link between home and school. This paper considers the extent to which the free, password-protected online community environment of the Oracle Education Foundation’s Think.com supports children’s learning. Using an interpretive approach, we analysed the uses of the environment within a broad frame of digital literacies, social interaction and facilitated collaboration, in order to identify potential for, and instances of, learning. We found that many children engaged readily with the site to display a range of digital literacies and to communicate with others, and that teachers and facilitators played a powerful role in mediating learning, managing the communities, setting guidelines for participation, and linking students with …

Government primary and secondary schools across Australia are introducing digital technologies to support teaching and learning. Systemic models of deploying the information technology (IT) infrastructure to support this use of digital technologies however, can be at odds both with organisational models of school leadership and management, and with approaches used to support teaching and learning. Efficient IT deployment strategies drawn from the private sector are being applied within the school sector. In the 21st century, we talk of knowledge as the new currency, and knowledge building as the work to be done in learning organizations. While knowledge building is activity directed outward towards the creation of knowledge itself, learning is a personal consequence of this process, the aspect that is directed to enhancing individual abilities and dispositions.
