In November, 2005 a landmark government report entitled the National Review of School Music Education was released. The report found that there was a great variability in the quality of music education in schools. It was acknowledged that although there are some excellent music programs in schools, there is 'cycles of neglect and inequity' and greater support is required for teachers and the subject itself. The report acknowledged the influence of recent curriculum developments in Australia including integrating the arts into one subject. Curriculum, the term used to denote a course of study, has been understood in recent years as a documented program developed by experts and managed by an education authority. In many cases this has resulted in a focus on the experience and the goals of dominant cultures, so that minority groups do not feel well-represented in the curriculum. In this paper we explore the possibility of young people using mobile devices to enrich their curriculum by contributing content that encapsulates aspects of their lives.
