Bamberg Donates Time: Andragogues Develop A City, Jost Reischmann Nov 2005

Bamberg Donates Time: Andragogues Develop A City, Jost Reischmann

Reischmann, Jost

A project of cultural learning in a community in Germany is described: Students of andragogy organized a public exchange of “gifts” without material value; the idea was that the donator offered to share two to three hours of the personal life in a joint activity. About 200 people including local respected authorities participated. The event on the market-place before Christmas became a public festival; the idea was widely welcomed with joy. The regional press reported; many gift-encounters took place. A challenging discussion took place about the relationship to adult education and andragogy.

Learning Environment Design For Learners And Teachers, Gerald White Oct 2005

Learning Environment Design For Learners And Teachers, Gerald White

Dr Gerald K. White

This paper proposes that for elearning to be taken up widely by teachers and learners, a broadly purposed or designed elearning environment of essential educational elements needs to be available. It suggests that the work of preparing online learning programs involves seven different elements which can be organised into seven distinct digital online services layers. Further, from research conducted into educational usage of the internet in the Global Gateways (2003) report, there would appear to be four different types of educational users of Web services to be taken into account when constructing educational online environments.

A Parallel Reality Construction Of War Among Joloano Muslim Survivors In Sulu, Philippines, Frede G. Moreno, Lea U. Laput Oct 2005

A Parallel Reality Construction Of War Among Joloano Muslim Survivors In Sulu, Philippines, Frede G. Moreno, Lea U. Laput

Frede G Moreno

The Mindanao conflict in Southern Philippines is a long-standing controversy that has eluded comprehensive solutions. Despite efforts of the Government of the Philippines (GRP) and the representatives from the peoples of Mindanao in undertaking peace initiatives, “the war:” continues. The establishment of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) as embodied in an organic law provided in the 1986 Philippine Constitution has not seemed to bring about the much-anticipated progress. Even with the so-called “autonomy” already in place to substantiate the clamor of the Muslims for self-rule in the Tripoli Agreement, conflict has escalated signifying unrest among the people. Instead …

Levels Of Consciousness, Archetypal Energies, And Earth Lessons: An Emerging Worldview, Carroy U. Ferguson Sep 2005

Levels Of Consciousness, Archetypal Energies, And Earth Lessons: An Emerging Worldview, Carroy U. Ferguson

Carroy U "Cuf" Ferguson, Ph.D.

Worldviews emerge from our individual and collective Levels of Consciousness at given points in time and space and from what we come to “believe” is possible or not. In my own experience, my research on Consciousness, and my study of various cultures, societies, and Consciousness literature, I have identified at least seven Levels of Consciousness, twenty-five Archetypal Energies, and various Earth Lessons, which we seem to commonly experience as human beings, in our own unique personal, societal, and global life spaces.

Chu, Franz Kurfess, David Gillette, Craig Schultz, Mary Somerville, Marita Holst, Peter Lundkvist, Anita Mirijamdotter, Robert Sundlof, Seppo Tanskanen, Markus Tiburzi

Helen Y. Chu

Information Technology Services and the University Library partnered to build an Internet2-enabled Learning Commons (LC) at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. The project team now extends the campus partnership model to include student and faculty users in collaboratively applying Scandinavian style co-design methodologies for physical and virtual learning and teaching environments. The interactive design approach was tested from January to June 2005 with funding from a U.S. Office of Naval Research Internet2 MiniGrant subcontract award. The project evaluated the efficacy of an interactive design/redesign methodology for encouraging user-driven, boundary-crossing information exchange and knowledge creation. Involving graduate and …

Keep An Eye On Northern, Richard E. Day Sep 2005

Keep An Eye On Northern, Richard E. Day

Richard E. Day

Will Fayette County schools Superintendent Stu Silberman achieve his goal to make the academy one of the highest-achieving schools in the state without changing its demographics? In January, Silberman told parents that much of their children's low-test-score problem could be attributed to the principals and their ability to motivate their staffs. He said principals -- one at a high-scoring school and one at a low-scoring school -- could be switched, and that the scores would flip-flop in two years. He subsequently selected Principal Peggy Petrilli to lead the new academy.

Political Efficacy And Expected Participation Among Lower And Upper Secondary Students. A Comparative Analysis With Data From The Iea Civic Education Study., Wolfram Schulz Sep 2005

Political Efficacy And Expected Participation Among Lower And Upper Secondary Students. A Comparative Analysis With Data From The Iea Civic Education Study., Wolfram Schulz

Dr Wolfram Schulz

The process of political socialisation of adolescents includes more than the acquisition of knowledge about society, citizenship and the political system. In a democracy, citizens are expected to participate actively in the political process. Active participation, however, requires citizens to believe in their own ability to influence the course of politics, in other words, to feel politically efficacious. Therefore, enhancing control beliefs and the willingness to act politically could be viewed as important areas of civic and citizenship education. This paper examines changes in levels and relationships regarding efficacy and expected participation using data from students at different stages of …
