Factors Affecting Active Community Participation In Adult Literacy And Non Formal Education Programme In Anambra State, Dr. Uche J. Obidiegwu

The purpose of the study was to find out factors affecting active community participation in adult literacy and non-formal education programmes in Anambra state. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The design was descriptive involving 475 respondents selected from participants in the UNICEF assisted adult literacy and non formal education programme through disproportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using a 27 item questionnaire. Mean scores were used in answering the research questions, while t-test was used in testing the hypothesis at 0.5 level of significance. This study sought to develop and validate a Physical Education Achievement Test (PEAT) which will be used for accurate assessment of adult learners in basic education. Eight items were developed and pilot tested. Validation and reliability were determined using Kuder-Richardson formula ‘21’. Based on the results some recommendations were made.

This paper examines the concept of empowerment. It also discusses some of the income generating activities of the Agency for Adult and Non-formal Education (AANFE), Oyo State. This was with the view to determining how income-generating activities have helped adult women to develop skills in their different vocations and how these programmes have made participants to become self-reliant and improved their standard of living. This study focused on the necessity of constructing and using standardized achievement instrument for assessing adult learners. Tests and other procedures for measuring learners’ progress serve as basis for instructional decisions taken by educators on learners. For this reasons, educators are supposed to be versed on the production of good quality tests in order to obtain true estimates of learners’ achievement. This study discussed the qualities which a good test should have namely; validity, reliability and usability.
