The study argues for the integration of good governance principles in developing financially viable, effective and social equity-laden microcredit strategy for the impoverished agrarian reform beneficiaries in Western Mindanao. It particularly examines the program design and implementation strategies of the Enterprise Development Credit (EDC) sub-component of the Western Mindanao Community Initiatives Project (WMCIP). The study aims to provide lessons and insights for the planning and implementation of comprehensive and integrated Official Development Assistance (ODA)-funded government programs for poverty reduction and rural development. Con base en un cuestionario aplicado a 289 académicos con 30 o más horas semanales de trabajo, en una institución de educación superior pública, del noroeste del país, se investigó la percepción de los encuestados sobre su influencia en las decisiones de las administraciones central y de las unidades académicas, así como de ellos mismos. In this article, the authors detail the conditions and patterns of academic capitalism and the new economy in US higher education. Subsequently, a conceptual model is offered for considering the international reach and national and local patterns of academic capitalism. Further, a distinctive Mexican case of entrepreneurialism is offered. The article concludes with a discussion of alternatives for a model of a universidad latinoamericana that is grounded in the historical role of Latin American universities.

Esta obra explora en qué medida los cambios demográficos, sociales y políticos de la coyuntura actual están afectando, al mismo tiempo que abriendo oportunidades, al sistema de educación superior del país. Los autores proponen distintos planos analíticos en esa exploración, desde el análisis de indicadores estadísticos que reflejan la intersección entre las variables sociales de contexto y las educativas, hasta la consideración de los posibles efectos de la transición política en el sistema de pactos entre la universidad, la sociedad y el estado del México contemporáneo.

La pregunta no es sólo retórica, hay valores cruciales en tensión, críticas fundadas, resistencias al cambio, y disputas por el control del nuevo territorio. Este capítulo se concentra en el debate sobre las necesidades de regulación del conjunto de instituciones de educación superior privadas orientadas a satisfacer la demanda no atendida por universidades públicas o privadas de élite. Inicia con un apartado de contexto que da cuenta de la expansión del segmento privado universitario, así como de las negociaciones entre la autoridad educativa y los representantes de las universidades privadas para desregular el sector. Discussions concerning belief revision, theory development, and "creativity" in philosophy and AI, reveal a growing interest in Peirce's concept of abduction. Peirce introduced abduction in an attempt to provide theoretical dignity and clarification to the difficult problem of knowledge generation. He wrote that "An Abduction is Originary in respect to being the only kind of argument which starts a new idea." These discussions, however, have led to considerable debates about the precise way in which Peirce's abduction can be used to explain knowledge generation. A central challenge for research on how we should prepare students to manage crossing boundaries between different knowledge settings in life long learning processes is to identify those forms of knowledge that are particularly relevant here. In this paper, we develop by philosophical means the concept of a dialectical system as a general framework to describe the development of knowledge networks that mark the starting point for learning processes, and we use semiotics to discuss (a) the epistemological thesis that any cognitive access to our world of objects is mediated by signs and (b) diagrammatic reasoning and abduction as those …

One of the primary goals of educating in economics and management (E&M) is to teach students to think for themselves rather than repeat text-book theories. Drawing upon my own teaching experiences, I will discuss a framework for tutorial-based teaching of applied E&M thinking. The paper discusses results to date from the use of this framework as well as lessons learned which might be applicable to a range of University and non-University based programmes teaching skills in economics and management.
