The study analyzes sexual aggression according to hyper-gender roles and fraternity/sorority membership at a midsize midwestern university. The research examed whether hyper-gender roles affect an individuals sexual experience and whether fraternity and sorority communities are more likely to endorse hyper-gender roles. This study provides a proposal for crucial volunteer services to fill the gap for overburdened school counselors when parents are unable to engage in Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), a highly effective intervention for childhood problems. CPRT has been successfully adapted for use with individuals other than the child’s parents. The researcher in this pilot study adapted CPRT for use with senior citizen volunteers who often possess untapped abilities and talents. Seniors received several weeks of training, and then met with children for 1/2 hour supervised, video-taped play sessions for several weeks. Colleges today are asked to provide greater proof that they are providing quality educational experiences to their students. There has been a growing need for student affairs to provide documentation that their areas also impact learning and student experience. However, many student affairs professionals are overwhelmed by the idea of assessment and are looking for examples of best practices in this area. Several years ago the American College Personnel Association's Commission Director for Assessment and Evaluation developed the Assessment Skills and Knowledge Standards for practitioners. This document provides exampes of these standards in practice.

Mindfulness can be most comprehensively defined as a multifaceted, present-moment awareness intervention that capitalizes on self-perceptions (Gehart & McCollum, 2007; Nanda, 2009). Native American practices can be easily translated into counseling mindfulness techniques to aide in the healing journey of multicultural clients (Burks & Robbins, 2011; Durtschi,Rybak & Decker-Fitts, 2009; Garrett et al., 2011; Turner & Pope, 2009). A Medicine Wheel, or Sacred Hoop, is just one of the many ways to help individuals heal through mindfulness practices. The purpose of this study was to relieve test anxiety in high school juniors preparing to take the ACT: a high-stakes, college admissions, standardized test. Participants included 81 eleventh grade students (25 males, 56 females) from a Midwestern public high school. Results demonstrated that relaxation training in the experimental group significantly lowered student’s perceptions of test anxiety from pre-test to post-test. Further research regarding systematic deep breathing and relaxation techniques is needed.

The purpose of this article is to provide a rationale for the integration of mindfulness interventions in school counseling. Mindfulness practices currently are neither widely known nor well utilized in the school counseling environment. Implementation of mindfulness in schools can help students increase academic performance, develop social skills, and learn coping mechanisms to enhance their personal quality of life. By helping students learn to embrace and practice self-awareness, school counselors empower students to take ownership of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Historical foundations, basic tenets, current research, applications for school counseling, multicultural considerations, and implications are discussed.

As testing becomes an achievement marker for elementary school children, test anxiety would naturally follow for these children. This study looks at test anxiety in third grade students, as well as relaxation training as a treatment modality to deal with that anxiety. One hundred and four third grade students participated in this study. Those students that received relaxation training experienced less test anxiety after the treatment. Students in the control group showed no changes in test anxiety. The use of relaxation training among third grade students may be a beneficial method for teachers to reduce anxiety in their students.

This paper is a proposal to carry out a systematic program evaluation of the Sigma Phi Epsilon EDGE New Member Program, and was submitted to the Department of Education for funding in February 2009. The letter I received from the DOE indicated that my proposal did not fully meet the criteria for the grant competition since the study included students from many campuses rather than being focused on prevention programming for just one campus. Multicultural counseling competencies (MCCs) have typically been measured with instruments designed for and normed on mental health professionals (for example, MCCTS-R; Holcomb-McCoy, 2001; MCI; Sodowsky, Taffe, Gutkin, & Wise, 1994; D’Andrea, Daniels, & Heck, 1991). One published instrument specifically assesses school counselor MCCs (MCCTS-R; Holcomb-McCoy, 2001) but it does not conform to ASCA standards (2010, E.2). Following a set of validation procedures, an instrument designed to specifically assess school counselors’ multicultural counseling competencies was created that conforms to American School Counselor Association and Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development standards. The intent was to demonstrate to readers that even the smallest microaggressions have an impact on one's life, and resisting the temptations to tease a naive person for their lack of awareness or sensitivity is a good step on the way to confident bystander intervention when the consequences of hazing are far more damaging.

A formative evaluation of a national sorority's recruitment program was conducted to determine the effectiveness of selected program elements over the course of the first year's implementation. Primary objectives were to discover perceived needs among undergraduate members and chapters that were not met and to create program improvements based upon the respondent recommendations. A mixed method design employing a survey, the use of focus groups, and a review of available organizational recruitment data was utilized. Results indicated some participants understood and benefitted from the recruitment program, while others felt pressure to recruit, and still others appeared unaware of the program's …
