Black Americans, Gains In Science And Engineering Degrees, And Gender, Amadu Jacky Kaba

This article is divided into three parts. First, it presents the most recent data on Black Americans’ higher education enrollment and degree attainment rates, and overall numbers of earned college degrees at all levels. Second, the article presents data on the most recent enrollment rates and total numbers of science and engineering degrees earned by Black Americans. Finally, the article presents a number of factors that have contributed to the gains in earned science and engineering degrees by Black Americans, and also factors that have contributed to their slow rate of progress in these academic fields.

This study presents an in-depth social science examination of the 2011 Root Magazine’s rankings of the 100 most influential young Black Americans aged 25 to 45. Among the variables examined in this study are: place of birth, average age, gender/sex, skin tone, institutions where college or university degrees were earned, states and countries where those colleges or universities are located, and professions/job types.

This research study presents a social science examination of the US Women’s National Basketball As- sociation (WNBA) players for the 2006 season. This study does not examine on-court performance data. Instead, it focuses on the profile of the players as human beings, by looking at their race, average age, height and weight, colleges or universities attended in the United States and which regions these institu- tions are located in, demographics of international players, graduation rates, etcetera. The paper also ex- amines the issue of gender bias when it comes to salaries and advertisement or endorsement opportunities.

This paper claims that although there has been a significant increase in the number of scholarly publica-tions on interracial marriages in the United States in recent decades, most of these publications tend to focus on the small but visible increase in marriages, co-habitations and dating; how Whites or European Gentile Americans are gradually becoming accepting of these relationships; the factors that are causing non-Blacks to “reject” Blacks; and specifically factors that are causing White men and other non-Black men to “reject” Black women. This article claims that the United States is progressing well when examined through the racial and cultural diversity of its young people aged 29 and younger with earned doctorates. The data show that females in general and Asian and Black females in particular are earning very high proportions of doctorate degrees among individuals aged 29 and younger in 2009 and 2008. For example, of the 117,000 doctorate degrees (Ph.D., Ed.D., etc.) held by individuals in the US aged 25 - 29 in 2009, females accounted for 65,000 (55.6%), with Black females and Asian females accounting for 11.1% (13,000) and 10.3% …

This article claims that there is a positive relationship or bond between Blacks and Jews in the United States. This paper examines the issue of the Black-White wealth gap in the United States. The paper presents pertinent data illustrating that a large gap exists in wealth accumulation between Black and Whites in the United States. The paper presents a number of implications for the Black American population as a result of this large wealth gap. This paper claims that people of Black African descent resist racial revenge, including against people of European descent. The paper began by presenting data illustrating that millions of Black Africans were captured and transported to be enslaved through the Indian Ocean, Trans-Atlantic, Trans-Saharan, and Red Sea Slave Trades from the 1400s to the 1900s. Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, and Ethiopia are among the nations that lost at least one million of their members during this period. Inter-Ethnic/Interracial Romantic Relationships In The United States: Factors Responsible For The Low Rates Of Marriages Between Blacks And Whites, Amadu Jacky Kaba

This paper examines the status of interracial romantic relationships among non-Black groups and those between Blacks and non-Blacks in the United States. The research shows that, apart from Blacks, inter-ethnic/interracial marriages and other forms of romantic unions have increased substantially by the 21st Century. For Black Americans, however, the data show that just a very tiny fraction of them are involved in interracial romantic re-lations, including marriages with Whites and other non-White groups. The paper then goes on to present the factors responsible for this phenomenon.

This paper claims that African Americans are making consistent progress in college or university enrollment and degree attainment. These gains in educational attainment have led to a substantial proportion of African Americans to rise in many important sectors of society, such as business, the military and politics. However, there is a concern that unlike the Asian and Hispanic populations in the United States, proportionally, the African American population is not increasing as rapidly. This slow annual growth of the African American population may have both economic and political implications in the years and decades to come.

This study presents a quantitative examination of the demographics and profile of the 2009 Journal of Blacks in Higher Education annual study of the most cited Black scholars in the Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities in the United States. Among the variables examined in this study are institution of employment, academic department, institution of terminal or highest academic degree attainment and academic major, geographic region of employment and where terminal degrees were attained, types of degrees, and year of graduation with terminal or highest degree.

This paper argues that there are geographic and human (racial makeup) similarities in the emigration of Hispanics/Latinos to the U.S. and that of North Africans/Muslims to Europe. The paper argues, however, that compared to their counterparts in Europe, the Hispanic/Latino population in the U.S. tends to be more assimilated, with shared religious history (Christianity) being a big part of the reason for such assimilation. This paper explores the rising populations of Hispanics/Latinos in the United States and of North Africans/Muslims in European countries. It examines the “push” and “pull” factors contributing to the increase in emigration of Hispanics to the U.S. and North Africans/Muslims to Europe. Examining social and economic data for both immigrant groups, the paper argues that due largely to cultural similarities, the Hispanic population in the U.S. tends to be more easily integrated into the mainstream population than the North African/Muslim population in Europe.

This paper argues that West Africa as a region is not only among the most underdeveloped or least developed in Africa, but also in the world. Part of the reason for the underdevelopment of West Africa is that it has experienced two historical phases of the brain drain (slavery and post World War II skilled exodus). This research argues that despite all of the obstacles that African Americans have confronted in the history of the United States, they have made substantial progress in higher education attainment from the 1970s to the beginning of the 21st century. It reveals that the rise in attainment of college and university degrees has resulted in a substantial increase in living standards and that African Americans are making important economic, social and political contributions to the United States.
