Abstract: With limited staffing in cataloging and a robust global collection policy, original cataloging in many different languages is a huge challenge. One tool I use is Google Translate. This poster illustrates how this has benefited my cataloging in languages I do not know.

Goal: Share a practical tool every cataloger can use.

Outcomes: Catalogers can use Google translate in their cataloging.

This session presents the results of a qualitative research study about the achievement gap between bilingual Latinas and other ethnicities. Statistics show that merely about 18% of Latinos in the United States have a bachelor’s degree. Researchers claim the main hurdles for bilingual Latinas to graduate from universities are being undocumented citizens, lacking English proficiency, having economic hardship, having familial accountability, and experiences with discriminatory practices. The primary purpose of the research project is to describe the university experiences of six self-identified bilingual Latinas who earned 4-year degrees in universities in Michigan. Based on the Response To Intervention (RTI) model, about 5% - 10% of students do not respond to generalized or small group instruction. These students need direct instruction delivered with an individualized format during which they receive an increased number of opportunities to practice with immediate corrective feedback. However, these practice sessions can be met with resistance. This is moreso the reality among at-risk readers and boys. In this presentation, creative, engaging, multisensory approaches useful for practicing reading skills will be discussed and demonstrated. These approaches are useful for teachers, school psychologists, interventionists, and parents.

Learning objectives are clearly written, specific statements of observable learner behavior or action that can be measured upon completion of an educational activity. They are the foundation for instructional alignment whereby the learning objectives, assessment tools, and instructional methods mutually support the desired learning outcome. This poster describes the essential components of a learning objective and provides practical tips on writing well-defined learning objectives.
