A Longitudinal Study Of The Effects Of Eighth Grade Career Counseling And Guidance On Eleventh Grade Occupational Interests As Measured By The Ohio Vocational Interest Survey., Norma Jean Gates
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Students have reacted positively to personal contact with school counselors in regard to learning about themselves in relationship to potential career goals. There appears to be a need, however, to ascertain the effect of career counseling at the upper elementary grades upon career awareness and development at a later secondary grade. In addition, there is a need to study the effects of individual versus group career guidance at the upper elementary grades with reference to the career choices selected at a later secondary grade.

Contraceptive Sterilization As A Life Change Event: Its Effects Upon The Mmpi And Cpi Scales, Joseph Lee Anastasio
Contraceptive Sterilization As A Life Change Event: Its Effects Upon The Mmpi And Cpi Scales, Joseph Lee Anastasio
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This study concerned itself with voluntary contraceptive sterilization in general, and involved both vasectomy and female sterilization individually. Vasectomy and female sterilization were not considered to be the same and were treated individually, yielding two studies in one. Males were studied for psychological, marital and sexual reactions to vasectomy; and females were studied for the same reactions to female sterilization. Although references will often be made to sterilization as a general term, this distinction should be maintained throughout the research. All hypotheses, while states as though they referred to sterilization in general, will consider vasectomy and female sterilization are compared, …
Attitudes Toward Women Held By California School District Board Members, Superintendents, And Personnel Directors Including A Review Of The Historical, Psychological, And Sociological Foundations., Hilda Nees Beck
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Problem: Women, although comprising the preponderance of the teaching force, are represented in small numbers at higher level school district administrative positions. Their numbers have been decreasing :in California despite federal and state laws mandating equal opportunities for women. The low proportion of women in these positions has been attributed to their lack of qualifications, their lack of aspiration, and their poorer performance as administrators. Others have cited such factors as discriminatory policies and practices of school districts and the attitude toward women held by those who select administrators and responsible for that.under representation of women at higher levels. These …

The Influence Of Response Modality On Children's Imitation Of Helping And Coercive Behavior, Wallace Arthur Melcher
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The present study examined the effects of adult, film mediated models on the prosocial behavior of school children. Also the effect of congruency and incongruency between the model's response and the response the children were asked to perform was investigated. Thirty third-grade students, 19 female and 11 male, were randomly assigned to three groups. The first group observed a short film of an adult model providing helping (positive) feedback to a young boy who was playing a marble maze game. The second group was treated identically to the first except that the model provided coercive (negative) feedback. The third group …
Teaching Developmentally Disabled Children To Play By Themselves, Dennis E. Raschke
Teaching Developmentally Disabled Children To Play By Themselves, Dennis E. Raschke
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The effectiveness of a training procedure designed to teach developmentally disabled children to play by themselves was examined. In addition, the influence of the frequency of probing was investigated. Baseline data showed low levels of self-amusement. The generalization training procedure produced moderate increases in self-amusement when probes were conducted frequently. The same treatment procedure produced higher levels of self-amusement when probes were conducted intermittantly. Some strategies for more successfully programming self-amusement are suggested.
Vertical Zonation Of Three Species Of California Limpets (Acmaeidae) As A Function Of Predation, William Ernest Bros
Vertical Zonation Of Three Species Of California Limpets (Acmaeidae) As A Function Of Predation, William Ernest Bros
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Various studies indicate the acmaeid limpet species Collisella digitalis, Collisella pelta and Notoacmea scutum inhabit different vertical zones in the rocky-intertidal region. At Sunset Bay, Oregon, Shotwell (1950) found that C. digitalis was situated in the upper intertidal C. pelta inhabited the mid-intertidal and N. scutum was located in the mid to lower zone in the rocky-intertidal region. Frank (1965) observed the same distribution patterns at Coos Bay, Oregon as did the author in the rocky-intertidal region near Dillon Beach, California.
Species distributions in the rocky-intertidal region are thought to be limited from above by physical stress and from below …
