The Relationship Between A Kindergarten Screening Test And Other Measures, Mary Page Mcguire

The purpose of this study is one of exploratory validation. Concurrent validity was established by showing the relationship between the experimental instrument and the Lee-Clark Reading Readiness Test. The relationships among the experimental instruments, the Lee-Clark Reading Readiness Test, kindergarten teacher judgment, and first grade post-readiness reading group placement determined the predictive validity. The statistics offered in this study are for descriptive rather than definitive purposes.

The general purpose of this study is to attempt to determine whether or not the presence of a severely mentally retarded child has deleterious effects upon the family. The hypothesis that a retarded child tends to have a disintegrating effect upon his parents’ marriage has frequently been stated, but there has been little systematic research concerning the relationship of severely retarded children and the marital interaction patterns of their parents.

It was the purpose of this study to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling by comparing results of a counseling tema approach with those of a standard counseling approach. The criterion of effective counseling was client, counselor, and supervisor satisfaction with the counseling experience. The following background questions were raised. Each year children of seasonal worker who reside in the labor camps of the Patterson-Westley area enter kindergarten unable to learn. They are disadvantaged by comparison with children from the middle-class homes in the community. The organization and development of Del Puerto School for Pre-Kindergarten Children was a community effort to alleviate some of the cultural deprivation experienced by the children.

The present research attempts to discover a type of Buddhist curriculum which will best suit the needs and interests of the high school senior (twelfth grader) Buddhists in the United States. The present Buddhist Churches of America recommended curriculum in use covers only the pre-school through the eighth grades. There is an obvious need for a Buddhist curriculum in the important upper grades. As this proposed curriculum is directed to twelfth graders, the compilation of a curriculum for the other three grades {ninth, tenth, and eleventh) still remains to be completed.

The beginning point of this study was chosen because it coincides with the move of the institution from San Jose, California, to its present location in Stockton, California.
