The Summer Institute for Science and Mathematics Teachers will be held from June 13 to July 8 at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. The institute was designed to expose teachers to background material in basic subject matter, successful and lively teaching techniques, and current developments in research and contemporary relations among science, technology and society in selected problem areas.

The Tenth International Conference on Chemical Education (10th ICCE) will be held August 20-25, 1989, at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. The conference is co-sponsored by the Chemistry Teaching Committee of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry; and the Canadian Society for Chemistry and is supported by UNESCO. It is co-chaired by Maurice Chastrette (Chairman of CTC/IUPAC, France) and Brian T. Newbold (Canada).

The University of Northern Iowa, along with the Iowa Academy of Science, the National Science Foundation and the National Diffusion Network, is sponsoring "Leadership Workshops in Physics Resources, Instructional Strategies and Content for Teachers of High School Physics." The workshops are designed to train resource teachers to utilize resources and instructional strategies to be used in their classrooms. Included among the resources offered are materials found in the Physics Resources and Instructional Strategies for Motivating Students (PRISMS) program. Content update lectures and demonstrations by UNI physics staff members will cover such topics as holography, acoustics, thermodynamics, electronics and nuclear physics.
