This qualitative study focused on the experiences of seven non-native-English-speaking international student-athletes at an NCAA Division I, large, public, research institution. The experiences of the participants detailed their time prior to attending the institution, while enrolled, and plans after graduation. While previous literature on this topic existed, there was a paucity that positioned the international student-athletes, themselves, at the center of the research. Background/context: Until recently, the use of Multi-tiered Systems of Support/Response to Intervention (MTSS/RtI) in Iowa has been limited to identifying students who need special education services. In December 2011, the Iowa Department of Education (IDOE) released a document announcing the timeline for mandatory implementation of MTSS/RtI in all classrooms in all public Pre-K-12 schools. This study analyzed existing student record data on the 2005 to 2014 student enrollment in noncredit English as a Second Language courses at Des Moines Area Community College, Urban Campus to identify demographic factors and course-taking patterns that predicted matriculation or nonmatriculation to community college courses. The focus of this quantitative study was academic engagement of international students at community colleges. By highlighting the role of cultural heritage in students’ engagement preferences, this study sought to create a culturally sensitive measurement model of academic engagement of international students linking research-based knowledge about college student engagement and the influence of culture on educational processes. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to understand how adjunct nursing faculty integrate their pedagogical professional development (PD) experiences to develop identity salience as an educator, and understand how PD affects their perceptions of commitment, satisfaction, and time spent in the adjunct role.
