This study examined community college policies and practices related to undocumented students in Iowa. Critical race theory’s tenet of interest convergence and the qualitative methods of phenomenological interviewing and document review were utilized to answer the following research questions: (a) What is the legislative and political policy discourse about undocumented students in Iowa? (b) What are the institutional policies and practices regarding undocumented community college students in Iowa? Over the past several decades, United States institutions of higher education have experienced increased enrollment from international students. However, researchers have long acknowledged that many international students experience problems adjusting to life and studying in the United States, including culturally, academically, socially, and psychologically. Over the past few decades, one of the broad and substantial transitions within student financial packages has been the increased presence of institutional tuition discounting, which is generally defined as using institutional grants to subsidize educational expenses. This has been especially prevalent at four-year private institutions, and although much analysis has been focused on the amounts of discounting, little has investigated discounting’s relationship with net tuition revenue.

This study examines the Wakonse Conference on Teaching and Learning through an organizational development lens. It explores why the conference was created and why it has continued for 24 years. Using this phenomenological case study provides insight into both the organizational elements involved in this conference, but also how the roles of individuals have contributed to the persistence of this conference.

These three articles critically examined the priorities of American higher education institutions through studying their patterns of spending. Precipitated from an interest in the consequences that the Great Recession in 2008 and 2009 had on public higher education institutions in the United States, this research studied how the institutions chose to allocate their financial resources. By using finances as a measure of priorities across the higher education system, these collective choices revealed systemic priorities. This research was comprised of a case study conducted at Grand View University to determine faculty perceptions and perspectives of outcomes related to a Title III grant-funded, professional development program. The conceptual framework for the study was based on a systematic process called the logic model (W. K. Kellogg Foundation, 2004).
