Over the past several decades, United States institutions of higher education have experienced increased enrollment from international students. However, researchers have long acknowledged that many international students experience problems adjusting to life and studying in the United States, including culturally, academically, socially, and psychologically. This study investigates the similarities and differences of visual communication practices and conventions in the composition and biological sciences disciplines. Although scholars and instructors in Writing across the Curriculum (WAC) and composition have examined disciplinary differences in written communication, little is known about disciplinary differences of visual communication. This study investigated why international students chose to enroll at small, rural community colleges in the state of Iowa. Specifically, how key factors (e.g., institutional characteristics, program characteristics, marketing and recruitment characteristics, and significant others’ input) contributed to an international student’s decision to enroll at a small, rural community college in the state. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between private tutoring and Chinese students’ Gaokao (National College Entrance Exam, NCEE) performance including other potential factors (e.g. gender, registered residence status, family SES, academic track, etc.). This study sought to examine the impact of the college completion movement on the historical commitment to open access that serves as an essential part of the community college mission. This study focused on how four Black women described their retention and persistence; how institutional retention efforts support or hinder Black women’s perceptions of their ability to persist; and how institutional programs, processes, and policies can be transformed to support the retention and persistence of Black women attending community college. In 2012, 38 percent of Black women in college were enrolled in community colleges, 60 percent were over the age of 25, and 65.3 percent were considered low income.

This study made inquiry into the extent to which psychological factors and individual characteristics affect academic motivation among revenue-status and nonrevenue-status sport NCAA Division II student-athletes. In order to examine the link between these variables and academic motivation, participants from five Midwest NCAA Division II universities were surveyed.
