The purpose of this research study is to identify and evaluate student expectations prior to enrollment in a quantity food production lab/simulated restaurant environment. Web-based questionnaires were distributed to students at three four-year universities in the United States, who were required to take a quantity food production lab in order to meet graduation requirements. The questionnaire covered topic areas including material supplements and topics covered, expectations of the teacher, sources of influence, and real world applicability.

This study examines the impact of historical short stories on upper and lower level high school chemistry students in the second semester of a two-semester course at a large Midwestern suburban school. Framed by the larger questions of digital representation and course management systems, I examine how instructors perceive customized student profile on course management systems. For this exploratory study, I have surveyed 41 instructors and interviewed 9 instructors of English 150 and 250 in the English Department to examine how these instructors use both CMS and student profiles inside and outside of the classroom at Iowa State University.

The focus of this quantitative study was academic engagement of international students at community colleges. By highlighting the role of cultural heritage in students’ engagement preferences, this study sought to create a culturally sensitive measurement model of academic engagement of international students linking research-based knowledge about college student engagement and the influence of culture on educational processes. Over the past few decades, one of the broad and substantial transitions within student financial packages has been the increased presence of institutional tuition discounting, which is generally defined as using institutional grants to subsidize educational expenses. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to understand how adjunct nursing faculty integrate their pedagogical professional development (PD) experiences to develop identity salience as an educator, and understand how PD affects their perceptions of commitment, satisfaction, and time spent in the adjunct role. Administrators of nursing programs can use the results as evidence of the importance of providing PD to their adjunct faculty. Using a social cognition theoretical lens and based upon tenets from symbolic interactionism theory, this study explores the influence of parental social cognitions and parenting stress on the quality of the parent-infant interaction. Parenting stress, parent expectations of self in the parenting role, parent expectations of infant development, and observations of parent-infant interactions were obtained from 150 mother-infant dyads. Hierarchical linear regression analyses tested the hypothesis that parenting stress mediates the relationship between parental social cognitions and quality of the parent-infant interaction.
