The traditional transfer pathway model has been challenged over the past few decades in more than one way through various forms of reverse transfer. Reverse transfer students are a large general category of students that begin at a four-year institution and transfer to a two-year institution. Townsend and Dever (1999) write that the term reverse transfer does not adequately describe the many different types within this subpopulation of community college students, and that early research failed to identify reverse transfer subgroups. This qualitative study investigates knowledge transfer in college students

whose high school Advanced Placement (AP) or dual credit (DC) English courses

enabled them to opt out of the first level of composition at Iowa State University

(ISU). Although early college credit (ECC) students’ university writing

performances have been studied, writing transfer has not been adequately

studied in this population before. The influence of these students’ lived

experiences require more consideration from scholars because of the growing

number of students who enter advanced university classes by virtue of credits

earned in high school.

Community colleges serve as the college of choice for nearly half of all postsecondary students. The role of the community college continues to adapt and change, and the colleges that were once seen as vocational and technical schools now serve as a jumping off point to future educational endeavors and a variety of careers and occupations. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine Iowa community college students' intent to transfer to a 4-year institution in a STEM field. Specifically, it examined the demographics of the study participants as well as financial variables, including number of hours worked, number of dependents supported, and amount of financial aid received, to determine if there was any statistical significant differences between the students who did not intend to transfer, those students who did intend to transfer into a non-STEM field and those students who did intend to transfer into a STEM field.

Seamless Transfer Or Crooked Seams? The Differentiated Outcomes Of Associate's Degree Types Completing The Baccalaureate Degree, J. Phillip Thomas

In this study academic outcomes for Associate of Applied Science and Associate of Applied Arts degree students who transferred to a large public midwestern research university were examined. A group with transcripted technical credits of 16 hours at transfer were compared and contrasted with a peer group of college-parallel associate's degree students and a group with a combination of career technical plus college-parallel credits. Each group's academic performance measured by first semester grade point average (GPA), GPA at graduation, and time to degree was examined and a demographic profile was developed.
