The purpose of this study was to describe relationships between factors that influence perceived transactional distance (course structure, course interaction, and learner autonomy) and instructional design aspects that help to reduce transactional distance from the learner's perspective. Food hubs, or local food aggregation and distribution businesses, are triple-bottom-line firms that play an increasingly important role in connecting small and mid-sized farmers to wholesale and retail markets. Scientific investigations to determine land use planning and interpretations for corn productivity potential in the Southern Highland Zone of Tanzania were conducted. The assessment of soils corn growth potential has been conducted in four selected pedons namely; Uyole, Mbimba, Inyala and Seatondale. Pedological, physical, chemical characterization and an attempt to develop the pedotransfer functions were done. This multi-case study explored individual and organizational perspective change by analyzing two long-term, management-supported professional development courses within the Cooperative Extension Service (CES). Data sources consisted of a survey of course participants, and interviews of selected participants and course designers. More than one half of the participants in both courses self-reported a perspective change, although only 5 of the 16 participant interviews revealed premise reflection--a necessary condition in this study for a perspective change. This study investigated the link between social capital and access to productive resources particularly land, labor, information, and credit, as well as the impact of agricultural technical assistance on resource access among formerly-displaced farm households in Lira, northern Uganda. Research on grading reveals that grading practices have not changed much since they were first introduced. However, educators are now learning about a newer grading approach that evaluates student performance based on clearly defined learning standards. The "Bridging the Gap" program provides an opportunity to explore the relationships between learning and power in international agricultural development partnerships. A USAID-funded partnership between Iowa State University and Volunteer Efforts for Development Concerns, this farmer-to-farmer program sent groups of Iowan women farmers to Uganda to teach Ugandan women farmers with the objectives that Ugandans would move from subsistence to commercial farming and that both groups would benefit from the cultural exchange.
