A Project Based Learning Approach To Teaching Geometry In A 7th Grade Classroom, Jamie Bish

Education and Human Development Master's Theses

This curriculum project was created by a teacher for teachers, to present an example of how to use project based learning in a 7th grade mathematics curriculum while meeting the New York State Common Core Standards. More specifically, the project asks students to create a building plan that would fill a need in their community and present this plan to an interested group. The project focuses on a number of mathematical concepts including area, volume, ratios, and proportions.

Alternative Assessments: Moving Learning Forward In A Geometry Classroom, Lindsey Hadzima

Education and Human Development Master's Theses

This project was created by a teacher for teachers, providing alternative assessments for a geometry classroom. The assessments emphasize collaboration and group work as part of the assessment task. Topics include geometric proofs, geometric constructions, Pythagorean Theorem, trigonometry, polygons and polyhedra, volume and surface area. Recommendations for how and when to use each alternative assessment have been provided by the author. Additionally scoring rubrics have been provided. The alternative assessments are aligned to the Common Core State Standards, specifically geometry standards throughout secondary grade levels.
