Stereotyping of jobs by sex has a restricting effect on both sexes, but it has had a disproportionately negative impact on women. The need for methods to counteract occupational stereotyping is widely recognized (Steiger and Schlesinger, 1979; Monthly Labor Review, 1976). Since role modeling has been found in many settings to be a forceful factor in modifying behavior, Bandura's (1971) observational learning through role modeling formed the rationale for the study. The purpose of this study was to investigate empirically the relationship that exists between age at the time of entrance to kindergarten and academic achievement as reflected by standardized achievement scores administered in the fourth grade. The theoretical framework of this study is found in the field of child growth and development.;The sample included 200 students whose fifth birthdays occurred on or between January 1, 1975 and March 31, 1975 or on or between October 1, 1975 and December 31, 1975. Until recently little emphasis has been placed on the human aspects of veterinary training and treatment. The systematic skills-training programs which have been widely applied for the training of counselors have typically been designed with the assumption that all clients consuming the services of a counselor are voluntarily seeking help. In fact, many clients enter counseling reluctantly. Reluctance in this study is defined as a client who really doesn't want to be in counseling. This is very common among adolescent populations who frequently enter counseling because of the courts, schools, or their parents. This study was designed to determine if training in rational emotive therapy and study skills would be more effective in improving academic competence than training in study skills.;The subject population consisted of 141 students who were on academic probation at a community college. Students were recruited to participate in a one credit, graded seminar designed to increase the possibility of succeeding in college. Forty-two students were placed in one of four seminars. In addition, twenty-one students who initially expressed an interest in the seminar but later decided not to participate comprised the control group.;Treatment groups were offered both day and …

This study explored the effects of school organizational climate on student self concept development. its purpose was to investigate the relationship between organizational climate and student self concept in selected elementary schools in an urban school district in Virginia.;The population of this study included 500 fifth grade students, 89 fifth grade teachers, and 25 principals in 25 elementary schools. The purpose of this study was to investigate progress toward the achievement of fiscal neutrality among the school divisions of Virginia between 1970 and 1980. Fiscal neutrality is defined as the absence of an observed relationship between the local wealth and the expenditures for education within a school division. The relationship of the wealth of individual school divisions to per pupil expenditures within those divisions and the intent of the General Assembly of Virginia regarding the establishment of fiscal neutrality were also examined.;A comparison was made between the 1970 and 1980 per pupil expenditures of each school division in Virginia …

First, the National War College was planned and developed to be the capstone of the nation's military educational system. It never achieved that position. Instead it has shared the summit of professional military education with the other four Senior Service Colleges. Purpose. This research examined the relationship between stress and job satisfaction of elementary school principals. The purpose of the study was to determine if the situational variables, socioeconomic level of students and student enrollment, and the demographic variables, sex, age, and experience, influenced the stress-job satisfaction of the principal.;Method. A random sample of 100 elementary school principals in the Commonwealth of Virginia completed the Administrative Stress Index and the Index of Job Satisfaction. Results from 87 percent mail return were subjected to regression analysis.;Findings and Conclusions. There was a negative relationship (r = -.25) between stress and job satisfaction of …

The purpose of this historical study was to ascertain several academic and administrative issues associated with regular faculty who engage in off-campus, paid consulting activities. Using data collected from five, public, higher educational institutions in Virginia, the author examined the academic profiles, motives, and consequences of consulting on the faculty, as well as the institutional policies governing paid consulting.;Thirty-one faculty members and five administrators from the Virginia institutions participated in an instrumented semistructured interview designed to gather information relative to faculty involvement as paid consultants in a centralized training and development program during the decade of the 1970's. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between school environment and student achievement in several high schools in an urban school division in Virginia. The subjects for this study were eleventh grade students, randomly selected teachers of eleventh graders and the principal of each school. Nine high schools buildings are in the school division, of which eight were used in this investigation. The primary objective was to develop a means for predicting academic outcomes at the time of matriculation for each student in the open admissions program.;The students studied were entering freshmen who were underprepared to enter college. This study explored the relationship between student-teacher compatibility and perceived student discipline scores. The six measures of compatibility included in FIRO-B were tested to determine their relationship to perceived student discipline.;The study was conducted with a total sample of 12 sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade teachers and 550 students. Both groups completed Schutz's Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior (FIRO-B), questionnaire. The six composite measures of compatibility were determined from the FIRO-B.;In addition the 12 teachers completed Brown and Hammill's Behavior Rating Profile. The purpose of this study was to determine whether Army ROTC cadets who enter the Advanced Course differ significantly in certain selected variables from cadets who choose to terminate the ROTC program with the Basic Course. Using theoretical constructs from Schoenherr's and Greeley's (1974) General Role Commitment Model and the Card et al. (1975) ROTC/Army Career Commitment Model, a prediction model was developed for the present study, the ROTC Continuation Model.
