This report summarizes the resulting effort, which included a literature scan, document analysis, and surveys of two groups of school practitioners (testing administrators and teachers) to analyze the amount of time Maine students spend on testing, the types of tests administered, and whether the results are perceived as useful for practitioners.

Conflict Competence Among Undergraduates: Exploring The Impact Of Fear Of Negative Evaluation, Erica E. Leighton Ma

According to a study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workplace conflict costs employers up to $359 billion annually (as cited by CPP Global, 2008). Considering this cost, teaching the current generation of college students to effectively manage conflict is a charge for colleges and universities who aim to prepare students to successfully enter the workforce after graduation. Current methods of conflict resolution training, however, lack consistency and show varying levels of success. Developing effective tools depends on a clear understanding of barriers students face in learning to effectively resolve conflicts. In looking to examine these barriers, this study explored …

Proficiency-Based High School Diploma Systems In Maine: Getting To Graduation (Supporting Students In High Schools Implementing Standards-Based Education And Proficiency-Based Graduation Requirements), Erika Stump Phd, Bernadette Doykos Phd, Maria Rios Brache

Findings from this case study research indicate that, as part of the school and district work to implement a proficiency-based system, all case study schools were establishing definitions of proficient, aligning curricula and assessments to common content area standards, and building interventions to remediate with students struggling to demonstrate proficiency.
