Education in Namibia under the illegal colonial regime (was) characterized by inequality, segregation and other apartheid conditions...Schools for various population groups are segregated along racial and ethnic lines. Ethnicity is promoted at the cost of national unity by the provision of segregated schools, linguistic segregation, and curricula that attempt to promote the special status of whites. While education is compulsory for whites, there are not enough schools for Africans. The schools for Africans are staffed with unqualified or inadequately qualified teachers... Pupil to teacher ratios in the African schools are much higher than those in the white schools. Funds ...

African Women Organizing: Four Ways Of Seeing, Marla J. Solomon Jan 1990

African Women Organizing: Four Ways Of Seeing, Marla J. Solomon

Gender and Development

A study which looks at women’s organizations in Africa from various perspectives, including those which seeks “ways of seeing and knowing that move forward a feminist agenda,” and celebrates the experiences of being “woven in the text."

This study is an effort to seek a deeper understanding of women's organizations in Africa, with the belief that understanding informs action. This search proceeds through several phases. First, I discuss how the way we "see" organizations influences how we work with them and create them. Starting with that idea, I develop a rationale for trying to view women's organizations ...

Nomadic Education In Somalia: Policy And Strategy Assessment, Hassan A. Mohamed Jan 1990

Nomadic Education In Somalia: Policy And Strategy Assessment, Hassan A. Mohamed

Master's Capstone Projects

In this paper I will try to argue the need for reassessment of the national education policy and strategies to reflect the importance of the pastoral sector in the national development context. The basic premises of my argument are centered around the following assumptions:

a) The development potential of Somalia is largely dependent on the development of the pastoral sector;

b) Pastoralism is time-tested and the only viable response to the harsh ecology of many parts Somalia;

c) Pastoralists are rational, resourceful, skilled and highly adaptable to the unpredictable conditions, and do not resist change and innovations that they see ...

Utilizing Adult Learning Theory In Training In The Indonesian Family Planning Program, Justanti Salilo

The first part of my thesis is about the existence of training in the family planning context, along with some problems of current training. The second part is about the theories and principles of adults as learners that will be useful and applicable in the training program. The third part is about the process of how learning is encouraged in certain circumstances that may achieve a participant's needs and expectations. In my conclusion I tried to put some emphasis on how the practitioners who are always involved in training should be and some recommendations that might be useful for ...

Theory And Practice Of Reactivation In The Standard Oral Lesson, Dumery Noe Serge Jan 1990

Theory And Practice Of Reactivation In The Standard Oral Lesson, Dumery Noe Serge

Master's Capstone Projects

In this Master's Project I would like to propose a technique that will enable school learners of English as a Foreign Language to become more conversant with some structures which are seldom used in the students' active repertoire. By the time they reach "Seconde" (10th Grade) learners have been introduced to most intermediate and a good number of advanced structures of the English language. However, some of these structures are used by the students only passively, that is they are recognized only in reading or when they are heard. To reinforce the structures which they recognize as they read ...
