Teacher education in Namibia is likely to involve more participants and more expenditure in the future. Analysis of the substance and character of teacher education programs as seen by the teachers are very important for the public. This study is a compilation of the thoughts of almost 70 teachers enrolled in a distance teacher education program. Their views are captured in conversations, observations, interviews and on questionnaires. Voice is an important aspect of the study, for both content and tone. The study was done in the context of the Namibia National Literacy Program and was influenced by my working environment. While studying adult education, and by being exposed to a variety of philosophical views and ideas, I tried to reflect those views and ideas to the adult learner groups who graduated from the Namibia National Literacy Program as well as to those in the communities not attending any classes. Context And Factors In Acquiring Literacy Skills: A Case Study Of Two Adult Literacy Classes In Namibia, Walter Naftalie Kahivere

This study was conducted over a period of three and a half months in two Stage One literacy classes. The main aim of the study was to determine whether the National Literacy Program in Namibia is addressing the specific literacy needs of these two classes. The case study covers 35 learners in Windhoek. The study concluded that some learning did take place in the classes, if the results of final examination is something to go by.
