Examining Diagnostic Utility Of Celf-5 Sentence Comprehension Test, Dayana Lituma-Solis Oct 2019

Examining Diagnostic Utility Of Celf-5 Sentence Comprehension Test, Dayana Lituma-Solis

NERA Conference Proceedings 2019

In our partnership with urban schools serving large populations of students from lower socioeconomic and culturally diverse backgrounds, we have provided research-based interventions for improving the reading skills of at-risk readers in first and second grade. Our research augments the school’s response-to-intervention (RTI) while simultaneously investigating the efficacy of our assessments and interventions. Because the school we work with tends to have insufficient personnel and resources to serve all who need RTI, it is essential that our screening measures can accurately identify children who may need extra intervention. Last year we were asked to assess kindergarteners and provide an intervention …

Pre-Service And In-Service Teachers’ Rubric Assessments Of Mathematical Problem Solving, Grant Kuehl, Kimberly Sofronas, Abigail Lau Jan 2015

Pre-Service And In-Service Teachers’ Rubric Assessments Of Mathematical Problem Solving, Grant Kuehl, Kimberly Sofronas, Abigail Lau

NERA Conference Proceedings 2014

This paper will report findings from a study designed to explore pre-service and in-service teachers’ rubric assessments of 4th-grade student mathematics work samples. Pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers were recruited to participate in this survey-based research which included three hypotheses: (a) in-service teachers would report greater confidence levels using rubrics and exhibit better attitudes toward assessment than pre-service teachers, (b) in-service teachers would be more reliable in their rubric scores than pre-service teachers, and (c) in-service teachers would identify greater differences than pre-service teachers in their evaluations of the work samples. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and qualitative methods …

High Stakes Testing Literature Review And Critique, Youness Elbousty Oct 2009

High Stakes Testing Literature Review And Critique, Youness Elbousty

NERA Conference Proceedings 2009

Standardized testing has been long established in most of the schools in United States. States have attached "high stakes" to tests as a response to the federal law NCLB. Under this law, schools had to develop or alter their assessments which are administered to gauge school progress. While many agree that high‐stakes testing has an impact on students; studies have been conducted to vet whether such impact has propitious or harmful outcomes. In this paper, I review and critique the literature on high stakes testing coupled with a close scrutiny of the research methods utilized in the articles under review.

Using A Longitudinal Data Mart To Examine The Effects Of Student Mobility On Test Performance Over Time, Richard F. Mooney, Barbara Q. Beaudin Oct 2008

Using A Longitudinal Data Mart To Examine The Effects Of Student Mobility On Test Performance Over Time, Richard F. Mooney, Barbara Q. Beaudin

NERA Conference Proceedings 2008

Our analysis shows how a longitudinal data mart can provide a simple and effective way to analyze student test performance over time. Our data mart in this case is a mega-table compiled from several years of archival student-level test data, where we have modified all of the fields so that they have a common meaning over time. Using this longitudinal data base we then compared the performance statistics and effect sizes of test results in math and reading on the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) series for grades 4, 6 and 8 and on the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) in …
