Self-directed learning (SDL) has recently gathered momentum among EFL/ESL researchers. Within the SDL framework, learners are responsible to monitor and evaluate their own learning. Student selfassessment can play a crucial role in helping learners become more dedicated and motivated. This study aimed at examining the role of filling out self-assessment checklists by 115 Iranian EFL learners over three successive semesters with reference to the role of gender and level of proficiency. The study examines the effect of explicit form focus instruction and specifically metalinguistic information feedback on the development of both implicit and explicit knowledge of adult English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. Ninety-one subjects at the lower intermediate level were carefully selected through placement test at one of the selected education centre in Kuala Lumpur and randomly assigned into experimental and control groups by the researcher. The Study aims at investigating a possible reconstruction of ESP for the students of FEB Unisbank Semarang in anticipation of the needs for English in Asean Economic Community (AEC) Era 2015. Respondents were the faculty officers and ex-officer, ESP lecturers and randomly selected students to justify the proposed ESP under Cambridge Proficiency Level B2. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents expressed positive responses on which to formulate the Competency Standards required of the students in order to professionally survive in the AEC Era. Recommended in the study is to reconstruct the ESP Syllabus and teaching materials.

This study explored the social involvement among cohort members from a professional graduate program delivered in a blended learning environment. Qualitative directed content analysis was used with a methodological framework derived from Edgar Schein’s (2010) ten dimensions of learning culture. The findings showed the cohort developed a culture of learning.

The purpose of this article is to highlight the teaching practices of two teacher educators who teach at universities in the Midwest. The authors detail the myriad ways in which they use a balanced literacy approach that is culturally relevant in their courses at Illinois State University (Normal, IL) and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Milwaukee, WI), to more effectively prepare PK-12 urban educators. The authors point to the demographic imperative, as shifting demographics continue, the need for highly effective teachers who can teach our nation’s culturally and linguistically diverse PK-12 students becomes ever more critical.

The process for course development integrates several theories and research methods into practice: L.
