Emerging Views On Making: Fibre Graduates Reflect On Their Practice, Kathleen Morris

This narrative research examines the ways in which craft is conceptualized from the perspective of five recent graduates from the Material Art and Design Fibre Program at a prominent Canadian art and design university. Recognizing the cultural currents that have excised acts of making, including Western de-industrialization and abundant access to offshore labour markets, this research looks at the role of maker within a new societal context. A nascent theoretical platform for craft, shaped by artists and academics, counters a dearth of voices that has characterized the field’s history. In Bangladesh Now 14 Community Radio Stations are on-air fro aiming to ensure empowerment and right to information for the rural community. They are broadcasting altogether 120 hours program per day on information, education, local entertainment and development motivation activities. Around 536 Youth Women & Youth are now working with those Stations throughout the country as rural broadcasters. BNNRC has been struggling for the last 12 years to open up the community media (including Community Radio, Community Television and Community film) and giving focus on its vital role as voices of the voiceless people. The aim of the present research is the presentation of a new method for teaching Greek traditional dance: the Laban-Notation teaching method. The proposed method combines the demonstration of the dance by the teacher with the rhythmic, motor and symbolic exploration of the four basic movement concepts: knowledge of body, spatial awareness, sense of effort, relationships, as these are defined by the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) theory (Laban & Lawrence, 1974). This short paper examines the history of Tapa in order to show that the fifteen kesakesa designs identified as trade mark worthy by Air Pacific/Fiji Airways are a significant part of the cultural heritage of the iTaukei peoples of Fiji. It will also show that Tapa and the designs/motifs found within tapa are often shared cultural designs across the Pacific.
