Academic institutions across the country are becoming increasingly interested in involving colleagues in the assessment of classroom teaching. This article will assist instructional developers who consult with faculty members and their departments in an effort to improve and evaluate teaching performance. It briefly reviews the literature on colleague evaluation of classroom teaching, discusses the issues developers should consider when assisting in the design of colleague visitation programs, and suggests guidelines for instituting such programs.
