An Integrated Map Of The Iste Standards For Educators, Danielson Framework For Teaching, And Interstate Teacher Assessment And Support Consortium (Intasc) Standards, Tonia A. Dousay

Tonia A. Dousay

Teacher education at the University of Idaho, like many other institutions, must balance the demands of competing and complementary standards. At the national level, preservice teacher education often follows the guidelines set forth by the InTASC Standards, ensuring quality preparation across states. Similarly, the need to develop digitally literate citizens and effectively prepare teachers for this task calls to mind the ISTE Standards for Educators. However, state-level demands, like those in Idaho, introduce additional considerations. The purpose of this working paper is to highlight the similarities and differences among these groups of standards and introduce a crosswalk framework that maps …

Choosing The Right Kind Of Accreditation For A Business School: A Comparison Between Aacsb, Acbsp, And Iacbe, Babu P. George

Babu George

This paper offers a comparison of the accreditation standards of three CHEA and US Department of Education recognized business school program accreditation agencies - AACSB, ACBSP, and IACBE. It also discusses the relative challenges and benefits of achieving accreditation by these agencies. While the choice for business schools is often not very clear and is a long drawn negotiated process involving different interest groups, this paper will nevertheless offer some basis of comparison among the accreditation agencies. The author draws heavily from his own personal experiences leading accreditation efforts in various US based and international b-schools and proposes the merits …

The Joan C Edwards School of Medicine (Marshall University, Huntington, WV, USA) was placed on probation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) in June 2011. In the following 2 years, extensive changes were made to address the numerous citations that resulted in this probation. In October 2013, the LCME lifted probation. In this article, we detail the challenges and solutions identified relevant to our struggle with compliance.

The Effect Of Cacrep Accreditation On Credentialing Exam Scores, Richard Justin Silvey Jul 2013

The Effect Of Cacrep Accreditation On Credentialing Exam Scores, Richard Justin Silvey

Richard Justin Silvey

The age of accountability, evolving from outcome- and standards-based practices, is prevalent in the education, healthcare, and counseling fields. In regards to standards, counselor education is framed by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) for best practices in terms of content knowledge; however the assessment of competence of that knowledge is not easily defined. Furthermore, school counselors are held to the standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) to practice within a certain scope of competence; however, the determination of that level is also not easily or clearly defined. This research sought to investigate …

Standards For Graduation And Initial Teacher Certification: The International Experience, Lawrence C. Ingvarson Sep 2012

Standards For Graduation And Initial Teacher Certification: The International Experience, Lawrence C. Ingvarson

Dr Lawrence Ingvarson (Consultant)

The focus of this report is on policies and practices for assuring the quality of teacher education programs and of teachers who graduate from those programs. International interest in policies that promote teacher quality has increased markedly in recent years (OECD, 2005). With mounting evidence that the most important in school influence on student achievement, is teachers’ knowledge and skill (e.g., Hattie, 2008; Hanushek, 2004) policymakers have been giving closer attention to strategies that will recruit, prepare and retain the best possible teachers. These strategies call for clear and valid descriptions of what good teachers know and do, which teaching …

The Search For Design In Electrical Engineering Education, David Kerns, Sherra Kerns, Mark Somerville, Gill Pratt, Jill Crisman

Mark Somerville

The importance of "design" in engineering education is well established and a cornerstone of most new engineering curricula as well as accreditation criteria Electrical and computer engineering (ECE) programs view many elements of design in ways similar to other engineering disciplines. However, in some respects other disciplines within engineering, such as Mechanical Engineering (ME), view design in broader terms, and perhaps gain value that electrical and computer engineering educators may miss. This paper describes how design is typically viewed in ECE programs, bow it's viewed in other engineering areas, particularly ME, and suggests some new possibilities for enhancing design education …

The Impact Of Multiple Computing And Digital Arts Degrees On Undergraduate Recruitment, Amber Settle, Liz Friedman, Mary Jo Davidson Oct 2010

The Impact Of Multiple Computing And Digital Arts Degrees On Undergraduate Recruitment, Amber Settle, Liz Friedman, Mary Jo Davidson

Amber Settle

In this paper, we describe a two-year study of the factors influencing freshman and first-year transfer student enrollment at the College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) at DePaul University. Our results show that the reputation of the institution, the particular degree programs at DePaul CDM, and to a lesser degree the diversity of degree programs available, were all positive factors for application and enrollment at DePaul. Factors that were not of primary importance included parental influence, the fact that DePaul is a liberal arts institution, and recommendations from relatives and friends.

Practical Challenges And Possibilities For The Integration Of Academic Literacy In A First Year Subject, Clifford Jackson, Pauline Taylor, Adam Raoul Jul 2010

Practical Challenges And Possibilities For The Integration Of Academic Literacy In A First Year Subject, Clifford Jackson, Pauline Taylor, Adam Raoul

Associate Professor Pauline Taylor-Guy

Changes to Queensland teacher accreditation (Queensland Government, 2009) have increased teacher educators' responsibility for graduate literacy. This paper offers a perspective on the implementation of a general literacy initiative into a specialist subject. Specifically, it details the engagement process undertaken with a broad academic literacy agenda, the First Year Literacy Initiative (FYLI), to refresh Foundations of Educational Technology, a first year education subject at James Cook University. An action research approach was used to identify and respond to key resourcing, pedagogical, assessment, and knowledge-based challenges and strategies. As subject lecturer I provide a preliminary evaluation of four strategies including (i) …
