Applying Andragogical Principles To Enhance Corporate Functioning, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

Andragogical elements [trust, empathy, sensitivity] actively expressed by facilitators/supervisors toward learners/supervisees/workers and fostering their reciprocation toward facilitators/supervisors, while being enhanced with organizational learning (OL) elements [experimentation, risk-taking, interaction with the external environment, dialogue, participative decisionmaking], strengthens job satisfaction and fosters learners’/supervisees’/workers’ desire to retain employment with their corporation -- thus reducing employment costs of new learners/supervisees/workers. Adding to these are leaders’ four (4) [management of attention through vision, meaning through communication, trust through positioning, and deploying positive self-regard focused concentration] strategies for taking charge which when applied with the andragogical elements and OL ...

Many of these documents as well as the accompanying experience of the author have been discovered and accumulated over a period of 16 years. Focusing On The Six Major Themes In The Global Perspective Of Andragogy: A June 2015 Update, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

Andragogy has received various mixed reviews in the past. Some have analyzed it from a positive perspective. Others have analyzed it from a negative perspective, still others have viewed it from a neutral or passive point of view while some have ignored it altogether. Most of the discussions have limited their observations to how Malcolm S. Knowles addressed andragogy. There has been an inadequate investigation of the foundation and background of andragogy from a world perspective. This research presents more than 450 major works published in English from national and international sources on andragogy that may help provide a clear ...

Cultural Learning Processes Through Local Wisdom: A Case Study On Adult And Lifelong Learning In Thailand, John A. Henschke Edd, Archanya Ratana-Ubol Edd

John A. Henschke

This article provides the background and concept of Thailand Lifelong Learning [LLL], even attempting a definition. The Thai LLL vision encompasses strategies for developing human qualities such as integrity, self-reliance, adaptability, resilience, and spirituality, to name a few. In some regards LLL seeks to recapture a more fully-developed perspective, on what in earlier times and places [1238 AD in Thailand], was called 'indigenous education', as it now pursues the benefits of a vibrant Learning Society. Progress of LLL in Thailand at times seems to be very slow and methodological rather than dynamic. It stems from developing a policy of learning ...

This will not be an exact history of the events and philosophy ...

Strategies For Developing A Sustainable Learning Society: An Analysis Of Lifelong Learning In Thailand, John A. Henschke Edd, Suwithida Charungkaittikul

John A. Henschke

Today's world may be characterized as the dawn of the new millennium of the learning society, where knowledge is considered as a country's most valued asset and primary source of power. In the increasingly intense competition among international communities, Thailand has been respected for advancing the concept of transforming communities, cities and regions into learning societies engaged in a sustainable development strategy which promotes the continual learning of individuals - the smallest unit of society. The learning society approach aims to balance economic, social, natural and environment aspects and resources of society; and is transforming the Thai people into ...

Building On Trust In A Complex World: Educational Research And Technology, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

The author began researching trust in the late 1980s. The technology of his practice and research converged in an instrument which indicated the strongest factor being "teacher trust of learners," and which he sought to enact in practice as "my trust of learners" were quite consistent with each other. This instrument has been used in 16 doctoral dissertations with findings of the strongest factor being "teacher trust of learners," including a study indicating the technology of his scholarship and practice being congruent. Trust is indicated in some of the general adult education literature, even in a highly unlikely place like ...

From The Inside Looking Out: Andragogically Buidling A Doctor Of Andragogy Program, John A. Henschke Edd, Susan Isenberg Ed.D, Kathy Petroff

John A. Henschke

Developing and Implementing a Doctor of Andragogy Program andragogically provides an opportunity to 'think outside the box.' It requires congruency between talking and action, and active involvement of the learners. With many successes in the first two years, a concern emerged over the lack of interest and attendance in the initiative. Using andragogy to investigate the concern, opportunities emerged for improvement.

Building Blocks For The Adult Learning Experience, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

The author is seeking to improve the process of building and conducting active adult learning experiences by considering and implementing the various elements that need to be included. After reflecting on his 22 years of experience in the adult education field and immersing himself in the literature of adult education, he concluded that there were five major elements (which he called building blocks) for conducting and engaging participants in an Adult Learning Experience, which are: beliefs and notions about adult learners; perceptions concerning qualities of effective teachers; phases and sequences of the learning process; teaching tips and learning techniques; and ...

The Four Forces Behind Knowles' Andragogy, John A. Henschke Edd Aug 2013

The Four Forces Behind Knowles' Andragogy, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

The career of "the father of adult education" in the U.S., Malcolm S. Knowles, was a phenomenon in itself. Although Knowles is the most referenced adult educator of his time (Sopher, 2003a), he has, at times, also been the most misunderstood adult educator in the U.S. Knowles' (1989b) autobiography provided some in sights into his writing styles, his highly successful career, and his theory of adult education -- the introduction of "andragogy" in the U.S. -- nor did it provide context for a deeper understanding of the times, what influenced his thinking and his contribution major forces that influenced ...

Andragogy Around The World In K-20 Education: It Is All About Trust, John A. Henschke Edd Dec 2012

Andragogy Around The World In K-20 Education: It Is All About Trust, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

The author's research in andragogy started in the late 1960s. More serious in-depth attempts were launched in 1997, just after Malcolm S. Knowles died - the author wanted to honor his legacy since he and his work in andragogy were influential in the author's life. The author's research yielded an instrument with the strongest factor being 'teacher trust of learners' - a belief that applies all the way through k-20 Education. This is found to be so in doctoral dissertations, overarching trust behaviors, and threaded through the literature surrounding trust. Trust is found to be congruent between the author ...

A Critical Review Of Reflectivity, Andragogy, And Confucianism, John A. Henschke Edd, Victor C.X. Wang, Karen M. Fay Dec 2012

A Critical Review Of Reflectivity, Andragogy, And Confucianism, John A. Henschke Edd, Victor C.X. Wang, Karen M. Fay

John A. Henschke

The link between Confucian humanism, Mezirow' theory of reflectivity, and the convergence of a worldwide concept of andragogy (the art and science of helping adults learn) articulated by Savicevle, Knowles, Mezirow's theory has increasingly developed to integrate inner reflection expressed through transformed perspectives and decision and action, and andragogy has focused on facilitation of collaborative interaction and self-direction in learning involving the whole person. To appreciate the basis of these three schools of theory, this chapter presents a discussion of these originating theorists. As an introductory thought, the following quotations illustrate how Confucius' thought has long been valued and ...

Research On The Use Of Learning And Degree Contracts Within University And Other Settings In Italy And The Usa, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

This paper presents some of the benefits of using learning contracts by some in the USA who have used them for many years, and others in Italy who had never used them, but were beginning to experiment with using them. Illustrations of results were provided by colleagues from both countries, comparisons were made between the two, and lessons learned from the experience were shared. There is a very different perspective between using them over a long period of time and just beginning to use them. However, the keenest insight is that they are beneficial at each stage along the way ...
