A Dispute Resolution Case: The Reintroduction Of The Gray Wolf, David B. Ross

Dr. David B. Ross

Under the authority of The Endangered Species Act of 1973, which listed wolves as endangered, Congress placed the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in charge of the recovery of the wolf population (United States and Wildlife Service, 1994). In 1986, a wolf recovery team established The Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf Recovery Plan. This proactive program recommended the following areas to recolonize the Gray Wolf (Canis lupus): Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and the states of Wyoming, Idaho, and the international border of Montana. The first experimental population of Gray Wolves was introduced into Yellowstone National Park and central ...

Freedom Of Expression Within The Public Sector: The Balancing Standard, David B. Ross

Dr. David B. Ross

This paper examines the issue of the public sector employee’s rights to freedom of speech in the workplace. The most important cases discussed include the 1892 McAuliffe v. City of New Bedford decision, the landmark 1968 Pickering v. Board of Education decision, and the 1982 Connick v. Myers decision. The balancing standard set forth by Pickering is acknowledged as being still valid today. The influence of and tension between the inherently competing interests of the public, the public agency, and the public employee is acknowledged and discussed. The Mystery Of Autism: Parental Perspectives, David B. Ross, Elizabeth Vultaggio Salah

Dr. David B. Ross

Research indicated that parents of children with autism spectrum disorder experience higher levels of stress than parents of children with other developmental disorders. Children with autism tend to exhibit problematic behaviors as a result of their inability to communicate effectively. Parents of children with autism find it challenging to determine the reasons for these behaviors. Since researchers have confirmed the presence of stress associated with caring for a child with autism, coping strategies can essentially elevate high stress levels that can lead to depression. Children with autism spectrum disorders may have multiple disabilities that can cause an even greater challenge ...

Jihadist Web Postings And Popular Social Media: A Forensic Psychological Analysis, Jessica Mueller, Christine Collins, David B. Ross, Rande Matteson

Dr. David B. Ross

The development of the Internet has made it easy for individuals to communicate with others around the world, especially with the increased ease of social media. The Internet is used for interpersonal communication such as social media, meeting new people in chat rooms, joining interest distribution lists, among others leisure activities (Lennings, Amon, Brummert, & Lennings, 2010). According to Pew Research (2014), 74% of adults, with 89% of individuals ages 18-29 using social media extensively. A Forensic Psychological Assessment Of Terrorists: An Anti-Terrorism Approach For Radicalized Westerners, Ronn Johnson, David B. Ross, Rande Matteson, Shacarah Henry, Marissa Link, Deanna Axler, Monica Lopez, Elizabeth Grace

Dr. David B. Ross

In an effort to prevent terrorism, many political and social resources have been invested. Nevertheless, there has been a lack of scientific evidence explaining the foundation of the psychological process in all levels of terrorist involvement. More specifically, the identification and development of effective assessment models, as well as defining characteristics, of those engaged. This presentation focuses on the complexity of the psychosocial and multicultural process of terrorists. Furthermore, possible predictive models for terrorist offenders will be examined for preventative measures.

Dr. David B. Ross

Terrorism in the United States has been a critical topic for many years, with one of the most well-known terrorist attacks taking place on September 11, 2001. In the Middle East, terrorist attacks often manifest in the form of suicide bombings. With recent bombings, such as the Boston Marathon and an American al Qaeda suicide bomber in Syria, the risk of an American suicide bomber in the United States is beginning to rise. This presentation explores the forensic psychological patterns exhibited by suicide bombers which can potentially aid in the development of the next terrorism frontier.

Forensic Psychological Perspectives In Deterring The Impact Of Acts Of Terrorism From Isis And Khorasan: An Antiterrorism, Jessica Mueller, Shacarah Henry, Nergis Akkaya, Jenny Li, David B. Ross, Rande Matteson

Dr. David B. Ross

Terrorism is a serious issue that affects lives around the world. Is there a way to deter terrorists from engaging in terrorist attacks? According to the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI), there are two types of terrorism to consider: domestic and international. For the purpose of this paper, international terrorism is defined as terrorism that takes place outside of the jurisdiction of the United States and domestic terrorism occurs in the United States (FBI, 2011). Terrorism has varying definitions depending on the country and agency enforcing terrorism laws. The United Nations does not have an agreed upon definition and Bruce (2013 ...

Creating A Survey For Analyzing A Culture Of Narcissistic, Toxic, And Power Behaviors In An Organization, David B. Ross

Dr. David B. Ross

The purpose for creating this survey was to understand employees’ experiences of coping with their organizational administrators/leaders who have characteristics regarding narcissism and elements of power, and who create a toxic culture. After much research and reflection, it prompted me to further my thoughts regarding a development of an instrument to measure these factors of a person who maintains an administrative/leadership position. Additionally, this survey seeks to understand the challenges, successes, and advice from employees who have been prone to a power hungry, narcissistic, and toxic leadership culture, as well as the mystery behind these behaviors. This survey ...

Promising Literacy Practices For Students With Interrupted Formal Education In Achieving Competence With Academic Language Across Disciplines, David B. Ross, Lyudmyla Ziemke

Dr. David B. Ross

Rapidly growing numbers of linguistically and culturally diverse students in U.S. schools and increased accountability measures in the nation’s education have drawn the attention of educational practitioners and researchers to determining effective instructional models and practices designed to meet academic needs of these students. English language learners (ELLs) with weak educational backgrounds and limited literacy in native languages, or Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE), find themselves at a disadvantage compared to not only their English speaking peers but other ELL subgroups as in addition to developing English language proficiency while simultaneously studying the required grade-level disciplines, ELLs ...
