(1) Background: There is robust evidence that mindfulness trainings enhance mindfulness as operationalized in Western psychology, but evidence about their effect on aspects of heartfulness is sparse. This study seeks to test whether a brief mindfulness training enhances heart qualities, including self-compassion, gratitude, and the generation of feelings of happiness.

Rather than awarding points for a combination of worksheet completion, quiz performance, in-class participation, and essay writing, standards-based grading separates academics from non-academic factors and communicates students' nonprogress towards mastery of course or grade-level standards. Some secondary schools are moving towards standards-based grading (SBG) in an attempt to produce more consistent grading practices, however the empirical evidence resulting from this change is mixed. Digital simulations are increasingly used to educate about the causes and effects of poverty, and inspire action to alleviate it. Drawing on research about attributions of poverty, subjective well-being, and relative income, this experimental study assesses the effects of an online poverty simulation (entitled Spent) on participants’ beliefs, attitudes, and actions. Results show that, compared with a control group, Spent players donated marginally more money to a charity serving the poor and expressed higher support for policies benefitting the poor, but were less likely to take immediate political action by signing an online petition to support a higher minimum wage ...

Clinical perfectionism is characterized by imposing excessively high standards on oneself and experiencing severe distress when standards are not met. It has been found to contribute to the development and maintenance of various clinical presentations including anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and eating disorders. Exploratory in nature, this qualitative study explored the branch campus teaching experiences of a particular subset of educators – those who teach in social work education programs. This feasibility study undertook a broad research plan in an effort to evaluate the feasibility of UVU establishing a community agency research support center in the near future.  The research project involved 33 student researchers, a paid research supervisor, a volunteer teaching and research assistant, and one UVU faculty member.  Feedback from the 71 community agencies surveyed indicated that there are already tens of thousands of disadvantaged community members/clients being served by nonprofit agencies in UVU’s service area.  These agencies operate independent of government and are primarily funded by donations, grants, and other non-governmental departments. Given significant changes to legislation, practice, research, and instrumentation, the purpose of this study was to examine the course on cognitive assessment in school psychology programs and to describe the (a) structure, (b) instructional strategies, (c) content, and (d) interpretative strategies taught to school psychology graduate students. 127 instructors were surveyed, and results suggest that over the last 20 years support for teaching cognitive assessment has decreased while the content and instructional strategies have remained largely the same. Achievement tests are used to make high-stakes (e.g., special education placement)
decisions, and previous research on norm-referenced assessment suggests that errors are
ubiquitous. In our study of 42 teacher trainees, utilizing five of the six core subtests of the
KTEA-3, we found that while most trainees make errors, they do not make a large number per
person with the exception of a few error-prone trainees. Additionally, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests
indicated that Reading Comprehension was the most prone subtest to administration (T = 120; p

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of morphological strategies training for English language learners from an Intensive English Program with different English proficiency levels. A secondary goal was to investigate how the training influences their cognitive load during morphological analysis tasks. Findings from 22 participants revealed that morphological strategies training positively affects the morphological awareness of ELLs and reduces the cognitive load of ELLs for all types of morphological tasks regardless of their English proficiency level: sentence completion, analogy, break down words, and meaning guess.

En esta comunicación mostramos el proceso seguido para la creación de una versión mejorada de Rayuela, un marco teórico y una herramienta web propuestos para ayudar a investigadores noveles en la generación de diseños de investigación en educación. La versión 2.0 de Rayuela constituye una herramienta al alcance de maestros y maestras, para la propuesta de innovaciones fundamentadas en el análisis sistemático y riguroso de sus prácticas.

Promoting Identity Development In The Classroom: A New Role For Academic Faculty, Scott Hall, Susan J. Sears

This study examined the influence of a structured curricular intervention on the personal and social identity development of college students. The authors implemented a pretest/posttest design using the revised version of the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status-2 (EOMEIS-2). Significant posttest results supported faculty’s role in developing students’ capabilities beyond the intellectual domain. Finally, the authors discuss collaboration between academic faculty and student affairs practitioners in contributing toward students’ identity development.
