This annotated bibliography features journal articles and books that support the ideals of using visual supports and picture exchange communication systems (PECS) to support communication in individuals of all ages who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or developmental disabilities. While there are sources that delve into other types of communication systems in comparison to PECS, it is evident in my findings that PECS remains supreme in regard to initiated conversation with both prompted and spontaneous communication by the individual using PECS. The use of sensory integration in classrooms that have students with special needs, especially students with autism spectrum disorder have been increasing in recent years. Different kinds of sensory stimulation can be beneficial for students who have autism spectrum disorder. Research- based practice in the teaching profession has had a growing importance over the past few decades. While the field of neurocognitive literacy is infantile, researchers have begun looking at how instruction can be impacted by understanding brain capabilities when learning to become literate in a language. Colour vision deficiencies affect approximately eight percent of the male population, yet the condition is often overlooked in the educational setting despite the pervasiveness of colour in the school. The purpose of this study was to explore how elementary school librarians provide instruction and prepare the library environment to meet the needs of students with colour vision deficiencies. Findings indicate that elementary school librarians in Virginia did not feel knowledgeable about colour vision deficiencies but were interested in knowing more and expressed a desire to make changes. American Romanticism Online (ARO) is an open educational resource that provides students and teachers with access to annotated primary texts, standards based lesson plans, and other multimedia resources. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the effect of tablet computer applications and the reading skills of students with autism. Two subjects diagnosed with autism selected by using a convenient sampling method participated in this study. A single subject ABA design was used for collecting data regarding phonemic identification, letter identification, letter discrimination, ap.d sight word identification.
