A Comparative Study Of Univariate And Multivariate Methodological Approaches To Educational Research , Robert M. Crawford Jan 1989

A Comparative Study Of Univariate And Multivariate Methodological Approaches To Educational Research , Robert M. Crawford

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this research was to examine a meaningful set of data from a longitudinal educational research project using univariate and multivariate methodological approaches. It was hypothesized that the multivariate analysis would provide a more in-depth and complete understanding of the underlying factors. A second purpose was designed to provide a practical, clear, and concise guide for other educational researchers to draw upon; The researcher first explored the possible relationship between teacher education graduates' teaching certification level and their adequacy ratings on 33 areas of preparation in their teacher education program. A comparison was made between the results of ...

Differential Effects Of High And Low Cognitive Load Instructional Methods On Recall And Transfer Of Procedural Knowledge , Brenda Mary Sugrue Jan 1989

Differential Effects Of High And Low Cognitive Load Instructional Methods On Recall And Transfer Of Procedural Knowledge , Brenda Mary Sugrue

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated the relative effectiveness of two instructional methods on the recall and transfer of procedural knowledge. The moderating influence of fluid aptitude was examined. An attempt was made to identify the type of cognitive processing induced by the instructional methods. The instructional methods differed in the completeness of support provided for the cognitive processing of procedural knowledge. The high-load method presented complete information about the steps in a procedure, follow by opportunity to practice the correct steps. The low-load method initially presented incomplete information about the steps and forced the learner to actively construct the correct steps by ...

Cognitive Abilities, Affective Characteristics And Learning Strategies As Related To Academic Achievement Among First Year Nursing Students: Test Validation And Causal Modelling , Sandra Beermann Chacko Jan 1989

Cognitive Abilities, Affective Characteristics And Learning Strategies As Related To Academic Achievement Among First Year Nursing Students: Test Validation And Causal Modelling , Sandra Beermann Chacko

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The present research had two purposes. First, the study was designed to validate the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) (Weinstein, 1987) with undergraduate nursing students. Second, a causal model of learning for undergraduate nursing students was developed and tested. Results of the validation study were used for the development of the model; The data were collected on 134 first-year nursing students enrolled at a Midwestern community college. Analysis of the data included (1) factor analysis of the LASSI data; (2) Cronbach alpha to estimate internal consistencies of the revised LASSI scales; (3) Pearson product-moment correlations to determine the relationships ...

An Analysis Of A Preservice Teacher Structural Equation Model Under Varying Assumptions And Measurement Conditions , Dean K. Frerichs Jan 1989

An Analysis Of A Preservice Teacher Structural Equation Model Under Varying Assumptions And Measurement Conditions , Dean K. Frerichs

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purposes of this study were to develop a structural equation model of preservice teacher variables and to examine alternative methods of testing this model under different assumptions and measurement conditions. A conceptual model was posited to examine variables related to job expectations, academic ability, pre-student teaching preparation, satisfaction with cooperating teacher, self-rated student teaching performance, and quality of teacher preparation program; From this conceptual model of preservice teacher variables, five empirical models were developed and analyzed. Models I and II utilized single indicators computed as composite means of the respective observed standardized indicators. Model I assumed variables were measured ...
