The need for skilled senior leaders within community colleges has long been acknowledged. This study identified and explored preparation factors which may contribute to the development of outstanding community college leadership skills;Surveys designed to collect both demographic information and information on the respondent's leadership preparation were sent to all presidents of public, two year institutions located in the Upper Midwest. This study of the impact of community college general education, semester hours on student critical thinking ability responded to national and regional research recommendations in analysis of three components: (1) critical thinking, (2) general education, and (3) community college. Student critical thinking ability was measured by student scores on the ACT Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) Critical Thinking component exam. This study began with a mailed survey to 180 nursing educators to ascertain whether caring was a curricular component, and to identify a quantitative instrument to measure caring in nursing students. The survey did not produce a suitable instrument, but a literature search located the Professional Caring Behaviors Instrument. Caring was a curricular component in 31% of the 109 respondents' programs;Caring has many meanings. Some nurses view it as affective and/or instrumental behaviors in relationships with patients. The primary purposes of this study were to examine the performance of K-12 students on criterion-referenced reading, language arts, and mathematics tests, and the relationship of those measures of student achievement to teacher performance measures by principals, students, and self-ratings by the teachers, with the intent of improving student performance through improved teaching. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of enhancing an already existing day treatment program for youth with severe behavior disorders. The intervention consisted of a short-term parent therapy group which operationalized elements of attachment theory and narrative therapy and then compared this to the program's regular treatment. This study sought to determine the extent to which selected Iowa schools that had made a sustained effort to implement outcome-based education (OBE) were successful. The study also attempted to determine change factors that enhanced the implementation of OBE and teacher perceptions of the effects of OBE implementation. A total of 303 teachers from 21 schools volunteered to participate in this study about OBE implementation and completed the 64-item questionnaire. This study examined productivity among students who dropped out of alternative schools in Iowa. Productivity was assessed in the areas of employment, political participation and volunteer involvement. Levels of involvement in counterproductive activities such as the public assistance and penal system were also under investigation, along with locus of control of this group. This study examined the effects of peer coaching training developed by the School Improvement Model (SIM). Data were gathered from 23 teachers participating in graduate work at Iowa State University during 1991. A single-group design was used with written pre- and post-training tests and judgment panel ratings of videotaped postobservation conferences.
