Methods And Apparatus For Teaching Science And Engineering, Thomas J. Greenbowe, Monica A. Mcphillen

Iowa State University Patents

The apparatus for teaching science and engineering is an interactive multimedia computer system which is used to simulate the performance of scientific experiments on the computer screen. An experiment is a method for determining the value of one experimental parameter by measuring the value of another using an experimental configuration of devices and apparatus. The interactions of the devices and apparatus in the experimental configuration are governed by a relationship among the experimental parameters that define the configuration. The user of the teaching apparatus assembles a pictorial representation of the experimental configuration on the computer screen and interacts with the ...

A Study Of The Standards Used In Vocational-Technical Teacher Preparation , Israel Colón Jr. Jan 1998

A Study Of The Standards Used In Vocational-Technical Teacher Preparation , Israel Colón Jr.

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the value, as perceived by faculty and graduates from the Vocational-Technical Education (VTE) Department at the State University of New York College at Oswego (SUNYCO), of the Standards of Quality for the Preparation and Certification of Trade and Industrial Education Teachers proposed by the National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators. More specifically, the study sought to investigate the importance ratings from graduates and faculty, the difference in importance ratings between faculty and graduates, and the relationship between importance and readiness ratings perceived by graduates toward the Standards of Quality;A ...

Natural Language And Mixed Modality Task Presentations In The Human-Computer Interaction Using Programmable Logic Controllers , John Robert Wright Jr. Jan 1998

Natural Language And Mixed Modality Task Presentations In The Human-Computer Interaction Using Programmable Logic Controllers , John Robert Wright Jr.

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on the human-computer interaction elements of task presentation and task structure in the programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Task presentation methods that were explored included a natural language (GE Fanuc's State Logic), and a mixed modality language (GE Fanuc's Logicmaster Relay Ladder Logic). Task Structure elements utilized in this study were linear procedural tasks and conditional branching tasks;A two-level factorial analysis of covariance determined that task presentation was a significant contributor to programming development times. Task structure and the interaction between task presentation and task structure did not yield significant p-values at the ...

Materials Science and Engineering Conference Papers, Posters and Presentations

Introduction Summer research internships were extended to twenty high school girls who had completed their junior year with the primary goal of increasing middle school girls' participation in science, engineering, and mathematics (SEM). The interns spent eight weeks during the summer of 1997 on the Iowa State University campus where they researched science and engineering topics, learned programming methods and developed SEM units for the Internet.

The summer research interns were directed by a team of four female undergraduate students who have demonstrated ability in computers, were trained in courseware development, and were majoring in SEM-related fields. A female graduate ...
