Restaurant Managers Learning Styles: Implications For Management Development Programs , Cathy Hui-Chun Hsu Jan 1989

Restaurant Managers Learning Styles: Implications For Management Development Programs , Cathy Hui-Chun Hsu

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated the learning styles of unit and district level restaurant managers. Also, aspects of current management development programs implemented in the foodservice industry were examined. Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory had been selected as the basis for the study; Two questionnaires were administered, Learning Style Questionnaire for unit and district level restaurant managers and Program Analysis Questionnaire for management development program directors in the foodservice industry. The sample consisted of 14 program directors, 118 unit level managers, and 45 district level managers;Descriptive statistical analyses were calculated for all variables. Learning styles were determined by using the scoring ...

Use Of And Satisfaction With Two Types Of Advising Systems Among Engineering Students At Iowa State University , William Francis Jaffe Jan 1989

Use Of And Satisfaction With Two Types Of Advising Systems Among Engineering Students At Iowa State University , William Francis Jaffe

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

As enrollments decline in institutions of higher education quality academic advising may help reduce student attrition. A quality advising program is one which students use and one with which they express satisfaction. In this study, the academic advising program in a college of engineering was studied, by means of a questionnaire, to describe the role of the advisor in terms of predominant patterns of student use. Another purpose was to determine which type of advising system, faculty-based or professional advisor-based, resulted in greater student use and satisfaction for specific advising needs: assistance with preregistration, class add/drop, curriculum planning, career ...

Questioning As A Teacher Intervention Tool To Stimulate Student Revision, Judith Kay Ramsey Jan 1989

Questioning As A Teacher Intervention Tool To Stimulate Student Revision, Judith Kay Ramsey

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Revision is neglected in many freshman composition classes even though it is now recognized as one of the recursive elements of the writing process. Early composition research acknowledged revision as a part of the writing process, and some researchers considered it a cure for nearly all the ills of student writing, seeming to believe that revision would surely lead to better written products, and the more revision the better the product. Later research, however, has revealed a complex web of issues surrounding the element of revision.

Based on that body of composition research, this paper will establish a need for ...

To Investigate The Effectiveness Of Computer Simulation Versus Laboratory Experience, And The Sequencing Of Instruction, In Teaching Logic Circuits , Anuradha Ashok Gokhale

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The study investigated the effectiveness of computer-based simulation versus laboratory experience, and the sequencing of instruction, in teaching logic circuits. The two independent variables in this study were: (1) method of instruction, a nominal variable with two categories (computer-based simulation and laboratory experience); and (2) sequencing of instruction, a nominal variable with two categories (reading following lab or simulation experience and reading prior to lab or simulation experience). The dependent variable was the posttest score;A 2 x 2 factorial design was used in this study. The data were analyzed using the analysis of variance procedure. It was found that ...
