Dr. Margaret Wragg Sloss: A Biography, Polly Crisman

Iowa State University Veterinarian

Dr. Margaret Wragg Sloss was certainly the "queen" of the veterinary college, and it was a title she earned through many dedicated years of hard work and service. The many honors and awards she received speak for themselves, but Dr. Sloss was much more than her honors and awards would indicate. She was a bright, active, determined, always helpful woman who commanded the great respect and sincere admiration of those who knew her.

A Look Back At The Veterinary Student, Robert Norton

Iowa State University Veterinarian

Editors note: This was a wonderful letter to receive because it so nicely commented on the people and situations that produce a publication such as this. It made this staff feel good about not only where the ISU Veterinarian is going, but from whence it came.

Half a century may sound like a long time, but memories of the early days of The Veterinary Student (the original name of the Iowa State University Veterinarian) are as vivid as they are persistent. The staff was proud of this pioneering venture and flattered to be imitated by Student AVMA chapters over the ...

The Life And Times Of Dr. John H. Greve, Kelley Meckley

Iowa State University Veterinarian

Twenty-one years as faculty adviser to the ISU Veterinarian? Some of the first year vet students aren't even that old! Mention this to Dr. Greve and he'll either claim to be a fossil or show you his dinosaur tie. Nevertheless, his service to the journal has been unsurpassed. Although the ISU Veterinarian is a student-run journal, Dr. Greve assists in many areas of its production, including the basic mechanics of publication. He helps prepare annual requests for GSB funding, and he is an excellent resource with respect to the journal's history. As a sounding board for new ...

While the ISU VeterinantJn enjoys its 50th anniversary edition, another ISU tradition commemorates a landmark. The annual SCAVMA Scamper celebrates its 5th running this spring. The Scamper, organized by the ISU Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA), is a combined 10-kilometer road race and 5-kilometer fun run held each spring. Its purpose is to raise funds to defray expenses of ISU veterinary students attending the annual national SAVMA Symposium. Editorial Notes

Iowa State University Veterinarian

Early last summer one of my fellow students suggested I include an editorial column in future issues of the ISU Veterinarian. My first inclination was to decline but the suggestion came up again which prompted me to ask exactly about what should I write? The response was, and rightly so, to write about something for which I have strong feelings. Although it may seem silly, I had to stop and think about those feelings.

(Editor's) Notes Or Why We Did Things This Way, Nadia Vandergaast, Lisa Kaylene Powell

Iowa State University Veterinarian

Greetings! It is my great pleasure and privilege to be senior editor of this 50th anniversary edition of The ISU Veterinarian. You may have noticed that this volume has been titled The Veten┬Ěnary Student, the journal's original name when it was begun in 1938. We thought it would be fun, as well as interesting, for our readers if we pursued an historical point of view in this issue. The format ofthis issue reflects that desire. There are two anicies dealing with people who were active in 1938. One is a feature story on Dr. Leland West, a 1936 ...
