Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The current study examined the characteristics, developmental patterns, organizational environments, and career orientations of successful individuals recognized for their leadership potential. Data were collected by means of a mailed survey. Respondents included 69 males and 38 females whose average age at the time of the study was 37.7 years;Research results suggest that the subjects tended to attribute their success to hard work, common sense, ambition, and desire to excel, and the ability to get things done. The Relationship Between Perceived Supportive/Defensive Communication Behaviors Of Adult Education Instructors And The Decision To Drop Out Or Persist By Adult Learners , Denise Ann Vrchota

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of adult educators' supportive and defensive communication behaviors on the dropout and persistence decisions of adult learners. Eighty-five adult learners at a community college completed the Personality and Educational Environmental Survey (PEES), the Communication Climate Questionnaire (CCQ), and a demographic questionnaire;The PEES identified which subjects would persist in or drop their classes. The CCQ measured subjects' perceptions of adult educators' supportive and defensive communication behaviors.
