A Perspective On The Market For Agricultural Economists: Background, Trends, And Issues, Wallace E. Huffman, Larry J. Connor

This paper summarizes broad trends in the market for and training of agricultural economists, models of professional labor markets, and key issues facing the agricul- tural economics profession. The number of U.S. Ph.D. agricultural economists grew at a 7 percent rate during 1973 to 1983. An increasing share of them are being employed in business-industry. Some issues facing the profession are: potential imbal- ance in Ph.D.s supplied and demanded, type and quality of graduate education needed to meet diverse job roles of doctor- ates, demand growth potential for masters level agricultural economists

Starting in the Fall of 1988, the admission requirements for applicants to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University will be reduced. The number of required course credits will decrease from the current 60 semester credits to 43. This revised Pre-Vet Curriculum was approved by ISU's College of Veterinary Medicine General Faculty on May 5, 1986.

Authoring System For Courseware Development: What Should Beginners Look For?, Carol Chapelle, Joan Jamieson

This paper is an introduction to courseware authoring systems, which are defined as software devised for an instructional environment that simplifies courseware development. The process of courseware authoring is described as consisting of two basic elements: computer and lesson. These two elements are further subdivided and the use of authoring systems to simplify each of these subcomponents is described. Suggestions are made for educators who are considering authoring systems to be used to develop courseware.

This study examines the effect of change in economic condition on families in their middle years in the nine-state North Central Region of the United States during 1979-1982. The relationships between economic changes, reported income adequacy, symptoms of stress, and economizing behavior are studied. The data include 1236 families.;Demographic and socioeconomic control variables were age of wife, employment of husband and wife, family size and family income. The purpose of this investigation was to determine behaviors of the master teacher and identify factors that have caused states to adopt career ladder plans. Research from effective teaching, states that have passed legislation endorsing career ladder plans, and competencies in Pro*file were sources used for this study. The major purpose of this exploratory study was to examine the effects of a site-based, peer coaching inservice model. A single-group, interrupted time-series design was utilized. The data were gathered from eleven teachers from two secondary schools in central Iowa during the 1984-85 school year.
