The purpose of this study is to investigate the predictors of community college transfer student success. Through exploring student demographics and background characteristics (e.g. race/ethnicity, gender, first-generation student status, socioeconomic status, number of transfer credit hours, attempted/completed credits), significant predictors of community college transfer student persistence and completion can be identified and further explored. This study focused on how four Black women described their retention and persistence; how institutional retention efforts support or hinder Black women’s perceptions of their ability to persist; and how institutional programs, processes, and policies can be transformed to support the retention and persistence of Black women attending community college. In 2012, 38 percent of Black women in college were enrolled in community colleges, 60 percent were over the age of 25, and 65.3 percent were considered low income.

This study grew out of my own lived experiences working with d/Deaf college students as well as a handful of issues uncovered within the literature, particularly around racist and audist microaggressions on campus. The purpose of this research was to examine the efficacy of the MAP-Works retention tool. MAP-Works is an online survey given to all first-year direct from high school freshmen that predicts individual student's risk for experiencing academic difficulty within their first year of college.

This qualitative study focused on the experiences of eight male first-generation college students attending Kenmont College (pseudonym), a highly selective, residential liberal arts college located in the Midwestern United States. This research examined positive and negative aspects of high school students earning college credit. Precollege characteristics--high school academic performance, college credit earned in high school, and academic performance during the first year of college--were analyzed to predict student persistence to the second year of college. Academic performance and persistence rate to the second year of college were compared between students who had and had not earned college credit in high school.
