“Creating A Virtual Retail Store Using The Sims4™ Programs In A Visual Merchandising Course”, April Elisha Stanley, Corissa Hite, Jennifer Wood
International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference Proceedings
SnapFashun, a plugin software used in conjunction with Adobe Illustrator (SnapFashun, 2017), was previously used in a visual merchandising course to create a final project: a digital retail store. Due to technological problems and student frustrations, an alternative was chosen: The Sims4™ programs. The expectation was the change in technology would permit students to focus on applications of visual merchandising concepts and result in a more engaged, creative final project. YouTube videos and online guides aided in learning the software for The Sims4™ programs. The outcome was a digital retail store that permitted increased engagement, greater creativity, and the application ...

Exposing 3d Printing To Undergraduate Fashion Merchandising Students, Erica Spurgeon, Melissa Abner
International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference Proceedings
3D printing was incorporated into Product Development for Consumers, Apparel Quality Analysis, and Branding and Fashion Technology courses at a Midwestern University. According to recommendations from the SAMR model, 3D printing technology was implemented at a higher level where transformational learning took place. The 3D printer was implemented as an engaging tool to provide higher order thinking, where students can analyze and design tangible items; as opposed to simply learning about a concept. 3D printing not only helped students learn existing course concepts but also provided them with experience using 3D printing technology. Since technology is key to college students ...

New Framework Proposal For Sustainable Textile And Apparel Education, Md. Rafiqul Islam Rana, Jung Ha-Brookshire
International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference Proceedings
This paper offers a conceptual framework to address the importance of incorporating ideation, negotiation, and implementation into Textile and Apparel sustainability curricula in a holistic matter in an effort to accomplish true sustainability. As long as professionals think business decisions are separated from sustainability decisions, sustainability goals will be more likely to be considered secondary goals. Therefore, in this model, researchers emphasize that future sustainable T&A business leaders must possess skill sets to navigate intertwined or sometimes often competing interests of economic, social, and environmental goals. An understanding of different required skillsets would help graduates entering the workforce be ...
