Reading Intervention Strategies: For Students Grades K-2, Alexa M. Andriessen
Honors Projects
Reading is essential to learning in our culture and educators have a very limited window to move students towards a solid foundation in basic reading skills. Furthermore, the research to practice gap in education is very large - mostly due to the fact that many research articles are not user-friendly or accessible to the average teacher. This booklet is a user-friendly compilation of effective reading strategies circulating in the research world. It is designed so that teachers can provide effective and accessible support to students in need.

Teacher Professionalism: What Educators Can Learn From Social Workers, Mary A. Bair

Peer Reviewed Articles
Although there are numerous calls to enhance the professionalism of teachers, there is little empirical research in the United States that examines educators’ understanding of the concept. This exploratory case study compared the conceptualization of professionalism by faculty and students in a college of education vis-à-vis the conceptualization of the construct by faculty and students in a school of social work. Findings revealed that participants in the education program expressed individualistic and somewhat restricted views of professionalism. Social work faculty and some social work students, on the other hand, expressed a collective and extended view of the concept. These findings …

Why Do Gen Y Students Study Abroad? Individual Growth And The Intent To Study Abroad, Jennifer A. Pope, Carol M. Sanchez, Kevin Lehnert, Alexandra S. Schmid
Peer Reviewed Articles

Masters Theses
There is a lack of research investigating the effectiveness of outdoor orientation programs. Specifically, there is an absence of research examining what program elements contribute to student development and how those elements support that growth. Programs have relied on anecdotal evidence of outcome achievement but these indicators do not sufficiently identify the processes that specifically influence participant development. This study uses means-end theory to assess an outdoor orientation program at a large public university. Participant interviews identified meaningful features of their program experience and explained what outcomes were achieved as a result of those specific features. Laddering and means-end analysis …
