This project explores the recent history of educational testing as holistic theories of education and associated alternative pedagogies that can be used to address the problems created by testing. Teacher Attrition: Exploring The Literature On Teacher Attrition, Stephanie Timmer
Culminating Experience Projects
This paper examines what the literature says about teacher attrition within a social and cultural context. More and more, teachers are leaving the profession, new and old teachers alike. The COVID-19 pandemic has only heightened the teacher shortage in this country. Many states have started initiatives to improve teacher preparation programs, offer scholarships, and school loan forgiveness, however the issues of teacher attrition have more to do with how we are treating current teachers. Many people are leaving the profession due to poor work conditions, low wages, and the lack of respect for the profession from the general public. Making …

Teacher Attrition: Supporting Teachers Through Mentorship, Tiffany A. Kamper
Culminating Experience Projects
A wealth of research demonstrates that teachers of all career levels are leaving the profession due to dissatisfaction with a variety of working conditions and lack of growth opportunities. Teachers desire a better work-life balance, opportunities to progress in their careers, and collaboration with co-workers and school leaders. Mentorship programs support early-career teachers, while giving midto-late career teachers the opportunity to use their expertise. This project is the development of a two-tiered mentorship program that combines instructional …

Diversity, Equity, And Inclusions' Role In The Moral Development Of A College Student, Travis Eugene Smith Jr
Culminating Experience Projects
This paper explores the moral development of the college student and how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs affect those students' development. A university has an obligation to provide an education to the students and help build the character development of the individual as well. Part of that education journey is focused on the moral development of the students. This project takes Kohlberg's moral development theory and explores how a university should address that development. Managing Mental Health Risks On Short-Term Study Abroad Programs: A Faculty Development Approach, Katherine A. Hoffswell
Culminating Experience Projects
Over the past several decades, the increase in college students participating in study abroad programming has coincided with the increase in students reporting issues with their mental health. Faculty directors who lead short-term study abroad trips are responsible for creating a safe environment that supports student health, wellbeing, and learning while abroad. Rising Student Burnout: A Distributive Leadership Approach To Creating Student Well-Being, Taylor J. Ross
Culminating Experience Projects
Most higher education institutions have focused on personal characteristics when evaluating student engagement on their campuses. However, the multidimensional theory of burnout, suggests that a student's level of participation is far more dependent on the context in which they interact. This project investigates the perspectives of modern students, their expectations of higher education institutions in a global society, and the ways in which the education sector has modeled capitalistic structures and values of big corporations, cultivating conditions conducive to student burnout. An implementation of distributive leadership is offered to bridge the gap between existing student needs and senior leaderships’ view …

Evaluating Alumni Perceptions Of Reciprocity With Their Alma Mater, Courtney Geurink
Culminating Experience Projects
A reciprocal relationship is based on a mutual exchange of goods, services, and support. Within the work of an alumni relations office, building and facilitating reciprocity between alumni and their alma mater summarizes the work. However, stereotypically, the relationship an alumnus/alumna has with their alma mater would not be described as reciprocal. Rather, it may be seen as single-sided, the university constantly asking alumni for their time, talent, and treasure. Thus, this qualitative, exploratory study utilized alumni interviews to determine the perception alumni have of their relationship with their alma mater. The study results suggest alumni do perceive their relationship …
